CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background
The environment is one of the natural resources that is very
meaningful for living things. The environment is a priceless gift from God.
Without the environment there will be no life. Therefore, efforts are needed to
preserve and maintain the cleanliness of the surrounding environment as well
as possible. Cleanliness is a part of faith, that's the slogan we often hear so
far, therefore we must always maintain cleanliness wherever we are.
Cleanliness is also important for our health, because in a healthy body there is
a strong soul.
Cleanliness is the state of being free from dirt, including dust, garbage
and odors. However, cleanliness is often taken lightly by students, and lack of
awareness is the reason for the presence of dirt in the school environment.
Actually, teaching and learning activities are also influenced by the
surrounding environment that is clean from dirt and the concentration of the
brain will not be easily divided if the school environment is clean, especially
in the classrooms that are being occupied. The amount of garbage scattered in
every classroom is the impact of hygiene problems that most often occur in
the school environment. Even though the beauty and comfort of the school
environment is the reference point for the enthusiasm of the students in
achieving good achievements.
Currently, all school members have their respective roles to create a
clean, beautiful and comfortable school environment. However, often the
school program does not run well so that the school program does not go
according to plan. Actually, every Monday ceremony has been reminded
again by the ceremony supervisor so that students can maintain the
cleanliness of the school environment and classrooms, besides that each class
representative is actually committed to maintaining the cleanliness of the
classroom and school environment.

1.2 Problem Formulation

2. What are the consequences of not keeping the school environment clean?
3. Why is it so important to keep the school environment clean?

CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION

2.1 Definition of Cleanliness

Environmental cleanliness is one of the important things that must be
maintained by students and the community in the school environment. As we
know that cleanliness is a condition that is free from all dirt, dust, disease, and
others, which can harm all aspects concerning every activity and behavior of
students in the environment. Cleanliness is also a thing that supports teaching
and learning activities. Therefore, we as school members must keep the school
environment clean and comfortable.

2.2 The Impact of Not Keeping the School Environment Clean

There are still many students who do not care about the cleanliness of
the school environment. Many students still throw garbage carelessly even
though trash cans are provided. Most of them think that littering in schools will
not have such a big impact. Even though there are many impacts that can be
caused if an environment is not kept clean.
The negative impacts include:
1. Cause puddles. This can happen in our school if students always litter.
Garbage that accumulates in the ditch can clog the flow of water in the
ditch so that, when it rains, it may result in puddles of water which can
interfere with our comfort.
2. Floor dust that is rarely cleaned can cause students to cough up to shortness
of breath. A desk drawer full of trash can also be used as a mosquito
nesting place. Especially if the mosquito is the Aedes aegypty mosquito
which can cause a person to contract dengue fever.

3
3. Garbage that accumulates can cause an unpleasant odor so that it interferes
with the concentration of students and teachers in the teaching and learning
process.

2.3 The Importance of Keeping the School Environment Clean

School is a place to learn, practice, and seek knowledge as a provision
for our lives in the future. We will be able to study calmly, well and
enthusiastically if the school is orderly and clean. To create such an
atmosphere, it is not enough just to be done by the school caretaker, but must be
assisted by all parties in the environment, including the students. In class,
usually a picket list is displayed, one of their duties is cleaning the classroom,
the blackboard and sweeping the pages. Thus, students have an obligation to
carry out the task properly and routinely and full of responsibility because work
is part of faith and includes worship.

2.4 Benefits of Keeping the School Environment Clean

1. Environmental cleanliness encourages students' enthusiasm for learning
In every aspect and behavior of students, of course, it can be seen
from their daily habits. Such is the case with the classroom environment
and even the school environment. If the school environment and classroom
environment including classrooms are clean and well organized, the
learning motivation that arises will invite friends to be enthusiastic in
participating in learning.
2. Environmental cleanliness is a school advantage
We know that the cleanliness of the school environment also has a
big impact and has a big impact on students, especially for the school itself.
Because everyone must investigate the situation and the state of the school
before becoming a student at the school. So, to maintain the good name of

4
the school, every driving force must maintain cleanliness and comfort at
school as well as safety at school.
3. Behavior as a school mirror
In every aspect, an individual's behavior affects his future character.
Thus, schools are assessed by the local community by looking at the
various characteristics of a student or a group of students. This is called the
mirror of personality. That shows the characteristics of a student in his
school.
4. Cleanliness can accelerate the human brain
We need to know that a clean environment or not has a big impact
on the human brain. Because oxygen in the form of O2 is inhaled through
the lungs mostly functions to facilitate blood circulation through the nerves
of the human brain. This is what people always worry about. So they can
keep their surroundings clean.
5. Planting trees is good for the environment
Replanting trees or the most synonymous with reforestation can
affect the amount of oxygen that can be inhaled by humans. If the school
environment is planted with shady trees, then in that place there must be a
lot of clean and fresh oxygen. And trees can also reduce pollution and
direct sunlight.

2.5 Increasing Awareness of Keeping the School Environment Clean

In the school environment, teachers are role models for all students. If
the teacher does good, the students will also do good. But if the teacher does
bad / bad, then maybe the students can do worse. In an effort to make students
aware of the cleanliness of the school environment, teachers must set good
examples, such as by throwing garbage in its place and picking up trash that is
lying around. Teachers can also reprimand students who are caught littering. In

5
addition, teachers can fine the perpetrators so that they are deterred from
repeating their actions in the future.
Awareness of students in an effort to keep the school environment clean
comes from their own conscience. To raise awareness, it can be done in the
following ways:
1. Get into the habit of throwing trash in its place.
2. Feel embarrassed if you throw garbage carelessly.
3. Conduct class pickets regularly.
4. Carry out routine mutual cooperation.
By doing the things above, it is hoped that later it will foster a sense of awareness of
the students in maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment.

6
CHAPTER III
CLOSING
3.1 Conclusion
From the discussion above, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the
cleanliness of the school environment must be maintained together so that a safe
and comfortable atmosphere is formed in the teaching and learning process.
Teachers can give examples to their students to keep the school environment
clean, for example by throwing garbage in its place and also occasionally giving
directions and warnings to students who are seen or often litter.

3.2 Suggestion
In order to create a clean and healthy school environment, cooperation
from various parties is needed, for example as follows:
