SUNDAY MASS REFLECTION

L U K E
THIRD SUNDAY OF THE ADVENT

3 : 1 8

Luke’s gospel passage today is when John the

Baptist speaks to the crowds. The audiences are
sincere in their search for answers. "What should
we do?" is a question that common people, tax collectors, and even the military
all ask. " John responds with vigor. He advises action: share, feed, be fair in
business, don't extort or wrongly accuse, and be content with your pay.

John's message is largely a call for a shift - repentance and conversion. In

practice, Jesus is urging us to repent of our sins and return to God. To prepare for
the Lord's arrival, he has provided particular instructions for everyone, such as
sharing and treating others fairly. We shall face the dreadful consequence of being
consumed by an unceasing fire if we do not take action.

With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will have the courage to confess our
sins and the desire to cease doing them. Not only that, but we'll make amends by
returning what isn't ours and paying those who have suffered losses as a result of
our misconduct. In other words, John is encouraging us to do what we haven't
been doing and to quit doing what we have been doing. The coming is draw
nearing but making changes for the greater good is never too late. Be a good
samaritan. Let us be good examples to other people and encourage them by doing
good conduct with not expecting something in return.
