REFLECTION
WHO AM I? SONG REFLECTION

Who am I, exactly? This may appear to

be an easy question, but it is actually a
challenging one for an individual to answer
about himself or herself. If someone asks me
who I am out of the blue, I may need a few
moments to think about it because the
question is so broad. I'm not sure how I'd

respond to all of these questions about

myself and who I believe I am because it is
possible that myself and my perspectives can
change over time.

"Who am I?" is a song written and sung

by Mark Hall, the main vocalist of Casting
Crowns, a contemporary Christian band. This
song is such a lovely ballad about Jesus'
deep love for us. “Not because of who I am.
But because of what You’ve done. Not
because of what I’ve done. But because of
who you are.” We adore Him because He
adored us initially. And I am convinced that
this is true. Before He ever entered this
wicked planet, Jesus had affections for us.
He was caring for all living beings through
the splendor of God. God blessed Christ with
the ability to be compassionate and forgiving
that He unconditionally loved and sacrificed
for each one of us.

JOURNAL
For God so loved the world, that He gave
His only begotten Son, whosoever believeth
in him shall not perish but have everlasting
life. (John 3:16) But how could God send His
Son to die for a sinner like me? He desired
that we establish a close relationship with
Him. That is why He sent His Son to die on
the cross. God does not want us to be
separated from Him because of our sins. He
is concerned about us and does not wish to
condemn you in any way. And I'm certain He
wants you to recognize the redemption He
has provided for us through Christ.

I used to have doubts about my salvation

and would cry every time I heard this song. It

seemed as if God was reassuring me that I
was His and that I had no reason to be
doubtful. So now, whenever I hear this song,
I rejoice in the knowledge that one day I
shall sing it in paradise and no longer have
any problems. God is the Creator. God is the
Sustainer. God is the Owner. So remember, if
you're having doubts about your salvation,
remember that it's possible that God is using
that song to inform you that you're His and
that you're not alone.

Still, you hear me when I'm calling,

Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.
