NOTE:
1) All questions are compulsory. Draw diagram wherever necessary.
2) The question paper consists of two sections A and B.
3) Section A has Multiple Choice Questions of one mark each, case study, assertion and reasoning
questions. Each question contains one mark.
4) Section B consists of three descriptive questions.
SECTION – A
Question number 1 to 5 is multiple choice questions.
1. Which of the following enzyme is used in case of fungus to cause the release of DNA along with other
macro molecules?
a) Lysozyme b) Cellulase c) Chitinase d) Amylase
4. The transfer of genetic material from one bacterium to another through the mediation of a vector like virus is
termed as:
a) Transduction b) Conjugation c) Translation d) Transformation
Question number 6 and 7 are assertion and reasoning questions. Answer these questions selecting the
appropriate option given below.
7. Assertion: The fragments of DNA are separated by a technique known as Gel Electrophoresis.
Reason: Since DNA fragments are positively charged molecules they can be separated by
forcing them to move towards the anode under an electric field.
Question number 8 to 10 is case study questions.
Unlike animals, plants cannot runaway for their defence therefore; they have evolved an astonishing variety
of morphological and chemical defences against herbivores. Thorns are the most common morphological
means of defence. Many plants produce and store chemicals that make the herbivore sick, some plants
produce highly poisonous chemicals and that is why no animal like to graze on those plants. A wide variety
of chemicals that we extract from plants are actually the chemicals produced by these plants for their
defence mechanism.
8. Plants evolve wide variety of morphological and chemical defence mechanism against:
a) Prey b) Predator c) Commensal d) Mutualist
9. Why you never see a cattle or goat browsing on weed Calotropis on the field?
a) It bears prickles.
b) It bears highly toxic tannins
c) It produces quinine which is highly toxic in taste.
