1. Write a short paragraph on the following question: Do you believe that this film has lessons within
the storyline that could positively influence society or mankind? Response must be over 100 words
and include at least 3 specific examples from the film.
Response:

Yes, I do believe this film has lessons that influence mankind. An example of this is when Rachael
finds out she is a replica because of Ricks test, after she confronts him about it, she finds out she had
memories implanted into her mind. She begins to cry, showing that even replicas have emotions.
Another example is the pure fact that the replicas are created to be slaves, although having a mind of
their own and having emotions, their life is controlled by humans and their fate is already decided the
moment they are created. A final example could be Roy’s final moments with Rick. Instead of killing
Rick, Roy decides to share his final moments with him. Letting the viewers know all Rick wanted was
to live a longer life.

2. Write a brief paragraph about what you thought of the film. Did you like or dislike the film, and
why? Response must be over 100 words and include at least 3 specific examples from the film.
Response:

I really liked the film and for various reasons. The music was very calming and synth like, but
serious. It appeared in many sad or emotional scenes, as well as romantic scenes like when Rick was
alone with Rachael. And when Rick kills the dancer, Zhora. The music can be heard as she slow
motion gets shot and eventually dies. I also liked the camera usage, for example, the close shot of
Ricks gun when he’s battling Roy and he’s on the other side of the wall. This scene was very intense
and foreshadowing something happening on the other side.

3. Did the film meet the first Criteria of a Successful Sci-Fi Film: “Did the film have man vs. some sort
of technology that was integral to the film’s plot?” Response must be over 100 words, include at
least 3 specific examples from the film and state how you think the film did or did not have this plot
requirement.
Response:

Yes, the film did have a man versus technology integrated into the films plot. The very first one to
take place was Zhoras death, when she was shot two times trying to run away from Rick as he was
chasing her down. The second death of a replica follows right after the second one when Leon
approaches Rick and nearly kills him, they fight intensely as Leon tells him “Painful to live in fear
isn’t it. Nothing is worse than having an itch you can’t scratch.” And a final example is when Rick and
Priss fight in Sebastian’s house. She acts like a doll blending in with her environment, and attacks
Rick, as she dies, she acts very robotic like if her systems were shutting offline.

4. Did the film meet the second Criteria of a Successful Sci-Fi Film: “Did the film take advantage of
modern film technology (at the time the film was made) in the area of special effects?” Response
must be over 100 words and include at least 3 specific examples from the film.

Yes, the film did take advantage of the technology they had at that time and did fabulously. As I
was watching the film, I couldn’t help but see the major similarities this movie has with the game
cyberpunk. In the movie there’s flying cars all throughout the city, and the buildings and skyscrapers
are all lit up with big screens of coca cola and overpopulated crowds. A good scene depicting special
effects was the genetic ice lab scene where the man has tubes and a coat keeping him warm. The
setting looked very realistic and even gave me chills to my body.

5. Did the film meet the third Criteria of a Successful Sci-Fi Film: “Did the film incorporate a love
interest or a lesson for humanity?” Response must be over 100 words and include at least 3 specific
examples from the film.
Response:

It depicted both a love interest and a major lesson for humanity. The love interest being that you
can love whatever it is you like. When Rick is told to kill Rachael, he does the exact opposite and
decides to instead protect her. Be it a replica or human you can love whoever your heart chooses.
Lesson wise, we should not create slaves for our personal gain and control them simply because they
were created by humans, despite displaying signs of life. These replicas might not have memories,
but they create some and they’ll never be shared with the world. “All those moments lost like tears
in the rain.” A final lesson that might be the bigger picture is the inhumanity of being a blade runner.
You kill certain amounts of people, and it makes you wonder if they’re even real people anymore, or
a replica. Rachael says it best when she tells Rick, “Did you ever take that test yourself.”
