According to Oxford dictionary,

Analogy
is a comparison between two things, typically for
the purpose of explanation or clarification.
Analogies are comparisons between two
things which emphasize the similarities
between those things, inferring that one is
similar to the other based on common
characteristics.
Analogies are indicated by a colon between the
words that form a relationship, with a double colon
between the two relationships being compared.
