I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates an understanding of the basic concepts and underlying
principles in Shielded Metal Arc Welding.
B. Performance Standards The learners independently perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
processes based on market standards.
C. Learning Competencies / Objectives WELD CARBON STELL PLATES IN HORIZONTAL POSITIONS (2G) WITH
WELDING DEFECT, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Code TLE_IAAW9-12GW-IIa-j-2
II. CONTENT Acceptable weld profiles Weld defects, causes and remedies
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new Discuss Weld Carbon Steel Plate in Horizontal Positions with Welding Defect, Tools and Equipment
lesson
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson The student understands the welding techniques and procedures in Shielded Metal Arc Welding
(SMAW)
C. Presenting examples / instances of the new lesson Carbon steel plate, welding defect, tools and equipment in weld carbon steel plates in
horizontal positions (2G) for their activity.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill #1 The teacher discusses the basic principles of Arc Welding in weld carbon steel plates in
horizontal position (2G). (Connect it to combustion of metal in Science)
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skill #2
Task 1. Personal assessment on core competencies. The students will respond to the core
competencies checklist.
(The instructor will discuss about the following parts of welding machine and function using
vernacular to make it understandable to the students)
(The same time the instructor will use clapping of hands or signing of hands to get the
attention of the learners)

Direction: Using the core competencies checklist, assess yourself by indicating a check mark
in either strengths or development areas.

F. Developing Mastery The teacher will regroup the class according to the weld profiles carbon steel plate in
Horizontal Position (2G). They will share their reasons to the groupmates and choose to
presenter to impart to the class what had transcribed during their sharing about following
types of welding defects, causes and remedies. (5 mins.)

(The instructor will also emphasize the proper personal protective equipment in SMAW
during this discussion)
G. Finding practical applications of concepts & skills in The instructor will let the students discuss the weld defects, causes and remedies from
daily living each of the core competencies to master.
H. Making generalizations & abstractions about the The teachers will let the students answer to the question “What is the importance of
lesson Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) to the advancement of Technology. Answer it on the
way you are comfortable with, you may use drawing or written.
I. Evaluating Learning The student will explain the given competencies into basic, common and core. Answer will
be written in a ¼ lengthwise sheet of paper. (10 minutes)
