General Instructions for preparation of Assignment:

a. Assignment groups

• Generally, each group shall consist of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 students

from the same tutorial group.
• Groups of 3 or fewer students and 7 or more students are strictly prohibited.
• Where a group breaches this rule, regardless of whether they have been given
permission, there will be a 5-15% reduction in their overall marks for the Group
Assignment.
• Where a tutorial class has 19 - 24 students, there should be no more than 4 groups. Where
it has 25-30 students, there should be no more than 5 groups.
Where it has more than 30 students, there should be no more than 6 groups.
• It is the sole responsibility of students, especially for those who join a class after Week
2, to look for their own assignment groups. It is not the Lecturer or Tutor's responsibility
to look for any group for them.
• Students who join a group late into the semester may, on the recommendation of the
group members, be given a 5-10% reduction in their marks from the marks awarded to
other members of the group.
• Suppose the tutorial class is already evenly divided with a maximum of 6 students per
group, and the "leftover" students are still unable to fit themselves into any group. In
that case, they are allowed to form groups of less than 4 students. Penalty or reduction
in marks shall be on a case to case basis, depending on whether these students had made
many efforts to look for a group early in the trimester.
• Each Assignment group shall elect a Group Representative whose task is to be the
middle person when communicating with the Lecturer or Tutor and perform any
registration or uploading works at WBLE.
• It is optional for the group to have a Group Leader whose task is to lead the group in
brainstorming, discussion and overall monitoring. If a group has no Group Leader, the
Group Representative shall assume both Group Rep and Group Leader roles.

This Group Assignment paper consists of 2 questions on 6 printed pages.

group or giving very minimal contribution.

Microsoft Word application to do your Assignment.

QUESTION 2

Inter-group Oral Quiz (30 marks)

• Each Assignment group shall arrange with another assignment group (within the same
tutorial group) to conduct an Oral Quiz at Microsoft Team or Zoom.

• How the Oral Quiz is to be conducted:

▪ For example, Group 1 (of Tutorial Group 1) is the host of the Oral Quiz session.
Group 1 members will be the "candidates" who need to answer questions.
▪ Group 1 shall arrange with Group 2 (within the same Tutorial Group 1).
Group 2 members will be the "examiners", who will pose questions to Group 1.
▪ Each group in a tutorial class will need to go through one round of Oral Quiz as
"candidates" and one round as "examiners.
▪ Example of sequence as candidates or examiners:
o Group 1 (as candidates) vs Group 2 (as examiners)
o Group 2 (as candidates) vs Group 3 (as examiners)
o Group 3 (as candidates) vs Group 4 (as examiners)
o Group 4 (as candidates) vs Group 5 (as examiners)
o Group 5 (as candidates) vs Group 6 (as examiners)
o Group 6 (as candidates) vs Group 1 (as examiners)
▪ Whether as "candidates" or "examiners", all group members must be present in the Oral
Quiz session.
▪ All members of a "candidate" group must make efforts to answer any question, while
all members of an "examiner" group must make efforts to ask questions. Marks will be
deducted if any group member shows very little participation.
▪ Recording and submitting Video File is by the "candidate" Group, not the "examiner"
Group.
▪ The "examiner" group does not need to conduct any evaluation of the candidates. They
may provide feedback to the candidates. The Lecturer will evaluate after viewing the
video recording.

• The Oral Quiz questions:

▪ Length of time of Oral Quiz: minimum 1.5 to maximum 3 hours.
▪ The questions will be from Topic 1 to Topic 2 (Part 1 and 2).
▪ The questions shall comprise a series of questions that require the candidates to provide
oral explanation or elaboration. No limit on the number of questions.
▪ The questions shall test the candidates' understanding of what they have picked up so
far from the subject and their understanding of fundamental concepts.
▪ For example, the examiners may ask: "Please explain whether two sisters can enter
into a legally binding contract." Or create a scenario (cannot be from tutorial
questions) for the candidates to answer.
▪ The candidates may refer to any books, lecture notes, published materials, online
resources etc., when going through the oral Quiz.
▪ However, the candidates are discouraged from spending too much time referring to their
materials. Instead, they are encouraged to articulate clearly their answers to questions
asked. Marks will be deducted if the candidates keep quiet for a prolonged period of
silence.

This Group Assignment paper consists of 2 questions on 6 printed pages.

6
UKML1053 BUSINESS LAW

▪ Apart from just answering the questions, the candidates must be able to elaborate
further, i.e. give additional points, illustrations or examples that show that they have
studied the Topics extensively and deeply understand the contents of the Topics.
▪ As for the examiners, they are encouraged to send their questions to the Lecturer first,
in case their questions are too simple, too straightforward and not suitable to test the
candidates.
▪ All members of an "examiner" group are strictly prohibited from disclosing or leaking
out their questions to the "candidate" group. Marks will be deducted if it is clear from
the video that the whole session has already been well-rehearsed by both groups and
the entire session is a sham.

• All students are required to turn on their camera and microphone throughout the oral Quiz
session. Marks will be deducted for any group with member(s) who fail to do so.
