Study of the thread take up lever and needle bar movement mechanism in relation of
cam/crankshaft in chain stitch machine:

Summary:
Analysing the movement of the take up lever and needle bar connected with cam which is connected
with main shaft of the sewing machine.

Materials/Equipment/Supplies:
Chain stitch machine.

Theory:
Chain stitch machine have a needle and a lopper and by their interaction the garment is stitch. The

needle is mounted in needle bar which is connected with cam. The cam is special shaped plate use to

drive the needle bar and thread take up lever. Cam in connected with main shaft. Needle bar enables

needle to move up and down, and upper thread penetrates into the material to be sewn. The take up

lever controls the tension of the thread to even feed of thread during stitching.

Experimental Procedures:
We observe that the machine is drive by a motor. Motor is connected with fly wheel with a belt. Fly
wheel drive the main shaft which is further connected with two bevel gear and two connecting rods
to transfer the motion to the bottom of the machine. Main shaft is connected with cam also to drive
take up lever and needle bar. By the rotation of the cam needle bar and take up lever is moved up and
down. The take up lever and needle bar have directly movement mean when take up lever goes up
the needle bar and needle goes up and vice versa.

Results and discussions:

The take up lever and needle bar have directly movement mean when take up lever goes up the
needle bar and needle goes up and vice versa.
