Quick NPC Traits

Even as you create a location description, encounter, or even
adventure based on some of the ideas you’ve come up with for Table (d8): How Many Descriptors?
your campaign, you’ve likely also come up with the need for a
NPC or two to go along with them. You may also find yourself 1-3 Roll once
in a scenario at the game table where you need a single trait or
defining idea to give a NPC life on the fly. 4-5 Roll twice
The following table includes 100 different descriptors you can 6-7 Roll three times
use to define a NPC. Determine how many descriptors you need 8 Roll four times
and then roll on the table to see what you come up with.

Four People You Meet In A Crowded Tavern

(Frowning/Inventive/Grandiose)
This young lady pensively peers above the rim of
her wine glass at the man at the bar beside her.
She’s telling a story of how her whole family died
while picking grapes for the very winery who
made the wine she’s drinking...

(Amused/Religious)
The man before you has a mug of ale in
hand and a smile on his face. He’s speaking
eloquently to a fellow disputing the existence of
the town’s patron deity...

(Reserved/Rude)
There always seems to be one of these guys at
the bar. You bump into him and he goes from
being a quiet, reserved townsperson nursing a
drink to the rude drunk willing to dispute your
lineage in no time flat.

(Humble/Trusting/Hysterical)
This poor lady seems to have been through the
ringer. She came in hysterical but soon calmed
down after someone bought her an ale. If you
listen, you hear a tale of a cruel husband who
may just have gotten what was coming to him
at home...
