Before you have a great body, you

must have a great mind. Build up
your character and anything else you
do will come together nicely. Logan
shares with us his accomplishments
at the age of 49, but his road is not
ending anytime soon. He’s here to
prove 49 is just a number and there
are still much more feats awaiting a
great conqueror.

14 APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M

the interview:
AMM - You took on bodybuilding at the age of 16. What was the reason you didn’t start
competing until the age of 33?
Logan - I competed later because I wasn’t really interested in being on stage, I just
wanted to look like I could. It was a visual thing more than a competitive thing for me. The
competition bug bit me after my first show and I had to be pushed into it.

AMM - For those who don’t know, what does it mean “turn pro” in bodybuilding
competition? What does one have to do to reach that level?
Logan - When you win a number of shows you have the opportunity to reach the
professional level. For most it involves prize money for placings and winnings. For me it
was more satisfying to stand on stage and compete with the athletes I was reading about
just a couple of years earlier.

AMM - Were you always into sports when you were just a kid?
Logan - Yes I was always big on sports as a kid. I loved the big three, football, basketball

APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M 15

and baseball and played regularly. I was also into gymnastics
and martial arts.

AMM - How had you been managing financially through

out your early bodybuilding career?
Logan - I was working as a personal trainer in the beginning
of my competitive years so it was a good set up. At that point
you’re pretty much always in shape because your prepping
for a show so you become your own best advertising.

AMM - What shows or films had you done so far and had
you done any speaking part?
Logan - I did mostly background work on films but I got a
good amount of screen time. My mother’s favorite was
General Hospital because she was such a fan of the show.

AMM - What would you say were your special skills that
contributed to your acting?
Logan - If I had to say what special skills helped me with
the acting I would have to give credit to my acting coach
Janice Dean who really helped me early on. She told me I
was easy on the eyes and had good timing. I also picked up
a lot of things from watching so much tv as a kid.

AMM - Now at the age of 49, we can say you have learned
so much about the fitness industry. How do you feel about
the film industry currently accepting actors who are
bodybuilders? Enough or not enough? Is it still difficult for
muscular guys to get acting jobs? etc.
Logan - Hollywood in my opinion has always used
Bodybuilders as props. The bodyguard or the soldier or the
guy that does the dirty work. I think it has to do with the
general public’s perception that we lack anything more than
a basic intellect. For many people muscles do not equate
with brains. Arnold did a lot for us in the 80’s and 90’s, now
the Rock is following in his footsteps and making his own
path. But as far as an explosion of big leading men or more
prominent rolls for Bodybuilders I’m skeptical. We are not the

social norm and it would be hard for the average moviegoer to
accept a big muscular actor as the doctor or the lawyer so we are
relegated to the parts that support the general stereotypes.

AMM - What is the number one obstacle you think you still have
to overcome to reach your goal?
Logan - My number one obstacle to reaching any of my goals has
always been myself. I’m not a blamer. If I fall short of my intended
goal I own it. I have been so fortunate in that anything I’ve set my
mind to and really gone after I’ve gotten it. I’ve never said this
person or that person kept me form this or that. It’s easy to blame
others instead of looking at yourself. God has been generous
enough to give me all the tools I need to achieve whatever I decide
to do. I have no complaints.

AMM - With these photos on our pages, what do you wish
to convey towards our readers?
Logan - I’m grateful that I was selected to be in Apollo Male
Models Magazine. When I first began gaining a little notoriety
my goal was to have a physique worthy of national attention.
Since then I have aspired to show that age has nothing to do
with determination. To me age is just a number. I give numbers
no power over me that might prevent me going in a particular
direction. Surround yourself with positive thinkers. People
who care about you want to see you succeed. One of my

favorite lines is from the movie The Pursuit Of Happiness when

Will Smith’s character said “People who can’t do something
themselves want to tell you you can’t do it. If you want
something go get it. Period.” I like anyone who sees me to
know that if you truly want something there’s nothing that can
stop you but you.

Only you can hear that little voice

calling you to do what you were born
to do. Sometime you have to get out
of that comfort zone, that safety net,
and give it all you got to your passion,
your urge, to be who you want to be.
Shaka is the name and he is no way
going to sit behind a desk. He was
born to be Mr. Incredible. He was
born to be a warrior!!!

22 APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M

the interview:
AMM - You wrestled in college but were
you always competitive in sports when you
were younger?
Shaka - I was always very competitive and
love competing. More because I hate losing.
I don’t like board games but once I start
playing I have to win.

AMM - What kind of training did you go

through for wrestling?
Shaka - I did a lot of body weight
exercises in wrestling. A lot of pull-ups,
push ups and burpees. We also did
exercises with other peoples body weight.
We would run uphill with people on our
backs or squats with the weight of another
person.

AMM - When did you switch over to

bodybuilding and why?
Shaka - I switched over after college
wrestling because I love working out and
eating healthy and a guy at the gym
suggested it and I thought “why not I only
live once.” Plus my grandfather was a
bodybuilder and I think it’s so cool when I
look at his old pictures with a body full of
muscles and a head full of jerry curl.

AMM - You mentioned your name Shaka

as an African name, meaning “Warrior”. Do
you feel Shaka fits your personality well?
Shaka - I do think I lived up to my name. I
love one on one combat sports and very
competitive. I also just have the warrior
spirit in everything that I do because I want
to be the best at everything I pick up.

AMM - It’s great to have a brain behind all

that muscles, but it’s not quite as good to
have all that muscles behind a desk day in
and day out. What did you decide to do to
let all that energy out?
Shaka - I boxed for a little bit and I hit the
heavy bag whenever I get the chance.

APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M 23

People are surprised when I tell them I have a desk job because
of my physique. It does take a great deal of effort but I make sure
to get a great workout and to push myself every day.

AMM - What do friends and family say when they see the
photos of you in the nude? And how do you respond?
Shaka - They are surprised because I’m not shy but I also don’t
like being the center of attention. They do say I have the body for
it and are very supportive.

24 APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M

AMM - Do you plan on getting even bigger, heavier, or…?
Shaka - I like the size that I am at right now. At times I look in the
mirror and say I need to get bigger in certain places but I am very
happy with where I am at right now. I am in the best shape I have
been in since college and all my other past teammates can’t say the
same.

AMM - Where do you want your photographs to take you?

Shaka - I don’t want to be a superstar or anything, even though I
would love that. I just want to show people how beautiful the human
body and a fit body can be. I want to inspire people and show people
how artistic all of our bodies are.

AMM - What super power would the warrior Shaka possess in an

action film?
Shaka - Shaka would have above average intelligence, strength
and expert in hand to hand combat. Similar to Black Panther. Yes, I
am jumping on that band wagon. I say that because I am strong but
not a bodybuilder and I also have the brains and work on improving my
physical and mental abilities everyday. Since I use to box and wrestle
I would be able to go hand to hand with just about anyone.

AMM - Who inspire you?

Shaka - My grandfather inspires me because he was a bodybuilder
and I always thought he was the strongest man in the world. As I got
older though I found out so much about his past that wasn’t very
flattering but it showed me how a person can change and the level
of darkness one can come back and it made him my hero even more.

AMM - If you had a chance to go back in time to see yourself when

you were 10, what would you tell yourself?
Shaka - I would tell the younger me to don’t take everything so
seriously as I was always wound up so tight and had a bit of a
temper. I would also say enjoy this time because it may not feel like
it but there are going to be times you wish life was as simple as it is
now. Lastly, I would teach him about the birds and the bees. My
mom was a single parent and didn’t have the talk. I found much later
in school when a kid brought a magazine to school and still didn’t
know what I was looking at. When I fully found out about that stuff
everyone else was already doing it.

A Simple Healthy
Vegetarian
Meal Plan for Fitness
Male Models

with Carter Wilson

After switching to a vegetarian diet a year and

a half ago, I had to really rely more on dairy products to
get a sufficient amount of protein as I eat five times
throughout the day. In the morning, I have three eggs
with a slice of cheese, a glass of vitamin D milk, and a
few sips of the Naked brand blue mixture of berries. The
vitamin D in the milk provides strong support for calcium
absorption and hormones, while berries are high in
antioxidants, and cheese is a good source of calcium. I
also drink two whey proteins drinks throughout the day;
whey protein is a great source of branch chain amino
acids. For another meal, I have another glass of milk; a
slice of cheese melted on wheat bread with Italian
dressing and Parmesan; baby carrots; and either cottage
cheese or mixed nuts. Carrots are high in vitamin A, and
mixed nuts provide fiber, the antioxidant vitamin E, and
various minerals. The fifth meal is a somewhat flexible
eat-out meal and can include anything from a large Kefir
cultured-milk probiotic smoothie; to a burrito with soy,

34 APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M

cheese, salsa, corn, and beans; to a falafel,
rice, humus, and vegetable plate. When I get
a sweet tooth, I always keep on hand
combinations such as peanut butter with
honey, Nutella with coconut oil, or Greek
yogurt with cinnamon (or Nutella). Peanut
butter and coconut oil contain certain
beneficial fats, Greek yogurt acts as a
probiotic, and cinnamon is great for digesting
carbohydrates and fighting inflammation.
Some of the food-based supplements I
simply mix with water and use for cleansing,
general health, anti-inflammatory, and/or
digestion purposes (but not for a meal per
se) include diatomaceous earth powder,
apple cider vinegar, turmeric, ginger, cloves,
cumin, Himalayan sea salt, wheat germ oil,
and fish oil.

MEGA BREAKFAST!!!
photos and text: Apollo GT

Food on the Go
Remeber when we were young and we wanted to go to far away
cities like London, Singapore, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris,
Amsterdam, etc? As we get older we’ll be happy if we can just go
bathroom each day!!!

If you were like me you woudn’t try to eat healthy by eating more fruits
per day. I really don’t like spending time munching on fruits since I
don’t have time to keep eating and they don’t fill me up much at all.

I used to only include a

banana and a scoop of
protein in filtered water
and blend them for a
quick breakfast.
Eventually I got bored
with that and started
adding more varieties of
fruits and some nuts. I
found that adding a
handful of walnut helped
your daily bathroom
routine, but if you were
allergic to nuts you could
just add flax seed instead.
Add about a table spoon
of ground flaxseed to

So I have decided to make it all simple, tasty, and

nutritious, packed with protein to fill you up for
hours and with fiber to help your food goes through
your system easily. And while we are at it, why not
make it delightful in taste, colors, and fun enough
even the kids would ask for it!

36 APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M

your blend and make sure that it is ground and not whole. Only when the seeds
were split open did they actually give your body the full nutrition benefits. So
unless you wanted to sit there and grind them with your teeth you would want
them ground already. Flax seeds are good for hydrating your skin and hair, and
high in antioxidants. Don’t have to cook it or spend so much time making it. So
simple, just eat it.

Not long before I realized what else I was missing out on, why not add more
fruits? Fresh ones are best but if you have no time to cut and peel, then use
frozen fruits. I found that frozen fruits were just as satisfying because for a hot
morning the frozen fruits added to the blend could make a cold smoothie. So
the choices started to grow with strawberry, blueberry, and kiwi. Berries are
good for antioxidants and kiwi is rich in vitamin A and C. We know vitamin C is
good for fighting cold and flu. Vitamin A is good for bone and skin. Another
fruit that is good for your skin is peach and it also helps in keeping your eyes
healthy. I used either fresh or frozen and not canned fruits because canned
fruits have added sugar and loss of nutrients.

Some other fruits I considered them exotic and a bit pricey. Star fruits and
dragon fruits are 2 of the few that I buy once a while. Star fruits are also high
in fiber so they can help you prevent constipation and since they are low in
calories, they also help you lose weight. I don’t think I need to lose weight but
not being constipated really make me feel lean and able to hold my abs in
better. Dragon fruits contain protein, calcium, iron, vitamin C, antioxidants
and the seeds produce oil that acts as a mild laxative. So for adults who sit
at their computers all day, these fruits, nuts, and seeds can help you feel
lighter and not all stuffed up. Now you know more and yet not required to
do that much more to get healthier.

For additional fun and healthier blend, I now added baby spinach and
cooked or pickled beets. If you have kids and want them to join in, make
your smoothie colorful. Beet has that strong burgundy color while strawberry
gives you a softer pink. Blueberry makes your smoothie a pastel violet but my
favorite is now the spinach. I find the spinach helps me with my restless legs at
night and it gives a green color drink so kids can think of it as a Hulk Drink. :D

hair/make-up
Christian Iles
interview artist and

the interview:
AMM - What keeps you excited about your work in hair, make-up, and styling?
Christian - I would have to say meeting new people and knowing they are putting their trust in me to help them
look and feel their very best.

AMM - Being talented is one thing, but you have to be a people person for what you do take you up close and
personal with whoever is sitting in front of you. Have you ever encounter one really extremely difficult person to
please? And what did you do to change the atmosphere so you can get the result you need done?
Christian - I have come across numerous difficult customers over
the years. I’ve learned to ask a lot of questions regarding their
needs; such as how long do they want to truly spend on their hair
in the morning. If it is a wash and go kind of client; it tells me to not
put a lot of layers in their haircut.

AMM - Not all of the jobs are as glamorous in your line of work,
but I can imagine some can be just as rewarding even when
glamour did not apply?
Christian - Very few jobs are what one would consider glamorous.
It’s a lot of hard work! But it is always rewarding to me when the
models, celebrities, or every day clients are having a great
experience. A little side note; I have learned over the years to always
keep the talent fed on shoots or at fashion shows.

AMM - LOL, especially if that client was ME. Who was your first
major male client? And how did you prepare yourself for that
moment?

38 APOLLO MALE MODELS MAGAZINE - W W W . A P O L L O G T . C O M

fashion stylist
Christian - My first major client had to be Heath Ledger who I worked on for all his television,
radio, and newspaper interviews on the A Knight’s Tale movie junket. Heath didn’t like a lot of
makeup; but he did ask me to stick close to him. Funny, everyone thought we were brothers.

AMM - Brothers? That’s a good thing :D. What was it like working with Heath Ledger?
Christian - Heath Ledger was a very quiet guy; but of course he was sexy as all get out.

AMM - Do you also feel even after you give the men your best advices they still might not do it to
take better care of their hair and skin?
Christian - Most of my men clients usually take my advice about hair care and skincare. The
average guy likes a great pomade or gel and will usually stick to only two or three skincare products.

AMM - What is the number one reason for skin damage in men?
Christian - The number one reason for skin damage in men is getting too much sun. They should
always use sun protection with a high SPF; as well as use a gentle cleanser.

AMM - Do you feel men in general, whether they are movie stars, athletes, or office workers, just
don’t take good care of their skin and hair?
Christian - I think men generally do take pretty good care of their skin and hair. To be honest, I
think men are pickier about their haircuts than most women. Men generally tend to use less
skincare products than women; but I do see that trend changing.

AMM - You had done your magic with so many big names and now, is there still someone you are
crossing your fingers and hope to get him in your styling seat? Besides me of course. :D
Christian - I would love to have the opportunity to work on male supermodel Luke Blue. Oh his
gorgeous blue eyes make me melt.

AMM - You and many others I’m sure. There is always room for improvements. What do you do
everyday to keep bettering yourself as The Beauty Architect?
Christian - I have learned to always try to improve my skills and my attitude. One way has been
to always observe other hair and make-up artists. I study what they do that makes them the very
best; then I integrate it with what I know I do best. I also find it important to reinvent myself from
time to time.

EXTRAS, EXTRAS, READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!
“I have learned that once you
committed to something, you
should give it your 100% best”
— Apollo GT
A Chance To Walk The Talk
I had the chance to work in Black Panther in the Seoul Market
scene. I must tell you, it was actually so much more fun to be
working on that set, that scene, than seeing it on the big screen.
Needless to say I was disappointed not to see myself or those I
met on that set when the film came out, but I came to a realization
that being on the set, working on that scene was much more
satisfying. It was like watching that scene unfold in 3D. Not just
watching it on a big screen, I was in it! Seeing everything upclose
and in detail, the set was amazing!!!! The moment I stepped onto
the set I was transported to a different land or even a different
time. I was no longer in Atlanta, GA. It was just an alley between
some buildings in Atlanta, filled with exotic cars on one side and
the other side was full of vendors and shoppers. I was placed in
several key locations for the shoot and most were just standing or
sitting around the entire night. So I must say I was lucky enough
to see most of the shoot. I even got the chance to see actor
Chadwick Boseman run after the bad guys and jokingly I said to
him to run faster. He was a good sport, flashed me a bright smile
and said he was trying. It was near the end of filming for that
night, or should I say that morning; all night we had been filming
and now it was almost 6am. I was sure we all are exhausted,
extras, crews, P.A.s and actors, need a good sleep!!! However, I
witnessed Mr. Boseman managed to deliver his 100% of T’Challa
and Black Panther modes and kept his cool with his fellow extras.
Two thumbs up!!!

Another film I had worked on but it’s not out yet was Venom.
Almost the same atmosphere but this time it was in a Taiwanese
village, less decorations and smaller set. Yet, it was packed with
actions and I got a chance to do some action of my own. Running
from danger!!! I must have looked to them to be in good shape so
they had me do the most running, filming from different angles,
over and over and over. My knees were starting to hurt as it has
been a long night and I was in dress shoes, running on gravels
and uneven path. I guess I must have channeled Black Panther for
the energy to carry it through the long night. Some other extras
were chosen to be victims and got killed on the set, but me, I
want to do some stunts. Becareful what you asked for? Even if you
might not get to see me in action on the big screen, I could still
said I did it!!!

Now I’m up for the most challenging casting for an extra yet: to
play a male stripper with a chance to do a full nude scene in a
feature film. I had to submit a photo showing most of me, holding
a current newspaper showing the date so that the casting agent
can tell it’s not a photo of me decades ago. We all know our body
changes overtime so it’s not easy for any of us to keep fit and
looking young forever, especially when I’m turning 49 this August
8th. I’ll let you know which film this is in the next issue of AMM.

Model Danny
Dobson won
Mr. Model
Champion at
MIAMI PRO
and Earned his
PRO Status

Danny Dobson was our previous cover model and as

we could see he has been keeping himself busy and in
top shape!!! With that many trophies in his hands from
Miami Pro event, we could clearly see that it was a great
competion for Danny. Earning his pro status meant next
time he makes his appearance on stage he must show
clear improvements from what we could see now in
these photos from backstage, taken by Thomas Mone.
It’s easy for one to neglect the back side but Danny had
done a great job keeping every part in check and that is
how a winner trains!!! So to see improvements from this
result we just have to trust that Danny knows what he’s
doing to bring the next level to the stage next year.

In the meantime, Danny Dobson continured to conquer

more wins at Pure Elite in Europe. There is no slowing
down for this fitness model. To see our full interview and
photos of Danny in our previous issue, make sure to visit
our site www.ApolloGT.com and click on the cover with
Danny Dobson’s name and photo on the cover.

The Making of Apollo GT photos: Apollo GT
chapter 9
I must have been around 7 when my grandma died. I didn’t know the meaning of it. I
remembered my mom was in the hospital for some treatment and everyone was trying to keep
the sad news from her for some reason, but that didn’t go so well. Somehow my mom
decided to come home and she found out in no time. Like a dream it was, cut to the next
scene, there my grandma was, just a painted picture of her on an altar, decorated with flowers,
fruits, incense and candles. Unknowingly my protections are diminishing very quickly.
Without my grandma I didn’t have the chances to go see my uncles, aunts, or cousins much
for they lived near where my grandma was. Now it was just more time with my own siblings.
Abusive siblings. The little times that I had for running around on my own and play became
very precious. But I was also growing older now with certain feelings that were new to me.

Remember I mentioned I was sick most of the time? One day I saw a small booklet, a comic
to be exact, of Tarzan. I loved to draw and seeing a book full of drawings certainly attracted my
attention. A strong and muscular man he was, and mostly naked. I wanted to be like that. I
want to be big and strong and muscular. I also noticed I liked looking at the drawing of his
body. Didn’t know what that meant but I liked the feeling.

Then there were 2 brothers on the same blocks about my age at the time who liked to run
around naked in their house whenever their parents were not home. One day I was with them
and no adults around. Well I got the idea of playing Tarzan, they played tigers and pretend to
eat me alive.
