Folklore
Duppies

Duppies are malevolent spirits that wander about the night.Duppies are
summoned by obeah-man or woman from graveyards for a trade of food,
drinks and mostly alcohol, after they dwell in cotton trees and bamboo
thickets after the summoning. Duppies mostly haunt people since they
are unsettled ghosts that torment the living. To be safe and ensure they
stay away from your home, make sure you sprinkle salt or rice grains
around your house. By doing that, the Duppies will have to count each
grain to be able to enter your household, by then the sun would arise and
the Duppies will have to return to the spiritual world.

Flora

Chaconia

The National Flower, Chaconia, also called Wild Poinsettia or Pride of

Trinidad and Tobago, is a flaming red forest flower belonging to the family
rubiaceae. This flower has witnessed our entire history and can be said to
represent the imperishability of life and our nation. The chaconia flower was
named after the last Spanish Governor of Trinidad and Tobago, Don Jose
Maria Chacon. The Chaconia, can be easily identifiable by its long sprays
of magnificent vermilion .The Chaconia goes beautifully with the National
Emblems. The Chaconia was picked as the National Flower during Trinidad
and Tobago’s Independence in 1962.
Personal Reflection
How cultural heritage affected my society and I
And the importance of it

Cultural heritage has a major impact on my country and I.

This has helped me to understand and learn more about
my country. Cultural heritage has added a lot of diversity
to our country for example, we celebrate most holidays
and don’t leave anyone’s religion out. Without cultural
heritage, we would not have even know what our famous
food in Trinidad and Tobago is, which Hot n Tasty
Doubles. Doubles is most likely one of the best foods I
ever tasted. Also, I wouldn’t be able to know my family
as well as I know now because of Cultural heritage and
what they’ve been through.
