C. Expressions. Read the following situations and decide the best expressions according to
the situations.
a. You get lost when driving and you wanted to go to the nearest gas station. How you ask
people to help you? Answer: I politely ask the person for where is the nearest gas
station and maybe if he/she sells something, I will purchase for a drink and gave
him/her a tip. If I don’t get an answer for that, I will just leave and saying thanks.
b. You meet a pregnant woman who is struggling with her grocery and you want to help her.
What will you say? Answer: I’d say “Hey ma’am, let me lend u a hand” or “Ma’am, I
see you’re struggling with the groceries, let me help ya”
c. You are at a meeting and you need to introduce yourself formally. How do you do it?
Answer: Greetings everyone, let me introduce myself. My name is Sulthan Hanif,
and you can call me Hanif. I’m from the Polytechnic of Jember, and I am 25 years
old. Thank you for your attention, thanks in advance.
d. You are at bank and you want to exchange currencies from Indonesian Rupiah to US
Dollar. You have Rp5.000.000. Answer: “Good morning sir/ma’am. I have to
exchange my money to USD. Here’s the money. I have to exchange my money just
for my work in the USA and a little traveling around the city.”

D. Writing.
You have learnt Basic English Course for 7 weeks. Please tell about the things you have learnt
from attending the class and what you need to improve. Your writing should not be less than
75 words.
Answer: That was the wonderful English class in my day. I have learnt about
introducing and exchanging personal information like, “Hello? Good morning! My
name is blablabla and I am form blablabla street. I am 100000 years old and I was born
in Wakanda” (that’s just for example). Secondly for asking and giving an assistance for
example “Could u help me, please? Let me lend you a hand!”. Thirdly for locating a
personal items and where’s the items placed for example “Those are your books. Your
books are on the bookshelf!”. Fourthly about expressing an apology, for example “Oops,
that was my fault. I am sorry for that! I am truly sorry”. The fifth ‘bout buying and
selling personal needs and grocery, for example “How much is this watermelon? How
much does this book cost?”. The sixth is about buying and selling currencies. Annnd.. I
forgot the last one.
