Pablo Escobar is the leader of Colombia's Medellin Cartel, which has a monopoly on cocaine in
Miami and other parts of Latin America. In fact, at its peak, its cartel supplied 80 percent of the
world's cocaine. His character is very controversial. Apart from being a drug dealer, his name is
famous among the Colombian poor because many consider him a hero. He was considered very
generous towards the poor. Throughout his life, he donated a lot of money for the construction of
churches, schools, housing for the poor, football fields, and distributed money at every
opportunity he met the lower classes. No wonder he was dubbed the "Robin Hood of Colombia".

The cocaine business in Medellin began in the 1970s. Chilean drug smugglers moved production
facilities in Colombia after Chile's dictator General Agusto Pinochet suppressed cocaine factories
in his country. At that time, the demand for cocaine was booming in US cities. The Medellin
Cartel immediately filled the huge demand for cocaine in Uncle Sam's Country, primarily
through Miami, Florida. The abundance of coca leaves in Colombia's forests, the raw material
for cocaine, allowed the Medellin Cartel to rapidly increase cocaine production. Pablo Escobar,
who took part, immediately skyrocketed since he entered the cocaine business. At the age of only
26 years, he already has a savings of 3 million US dollars. His wealth continued to multiply. The
cartel can earn 420 million US dollars per week or 22 billion US dollars per year. So it seems,
Pablo Escobar offered to pay Colombia's debt of 10 billion US dollars on condition that the
government abolishes the extradition treaty with the US. Pablo Escobar was included in the list
of the world's richest people for 7 consecutive years from 1987 to 1993 at number 7. Forbes
recorded his net worth in 1988 had reached 3 billion US dollars. Wealth continues to grow from
year to year.

Pablo Escobar has also been a Member of the Council of Councilors in the Colombian
parliament, which was done to clear his path to become President of Colombia. Unfortunately,
two years later he resigned after his illicit business was exposed by a politician who is also
Colombia's Minister of Justice, Rodrigo Lara. Lara is then shot in a street incident on Escobar's
orders.

Escobar always tries not to end up in Uncle Sam's prison for being a drug dealer in the US. He
has also been accused of funding Colombia's communist movement, the M-19, to attack the
Supreme Court to pressure the government. Colombian President Cesar Gaviria Trujillo even
mobilized police and soldiers to kill the Medellin Cartel. Clashes between security forces and
cartels ended with thousands of people being killed on both sides. Another attempt by Pablo
Escobar not to be extradited to the US was to offer himself to be imprisoned in La Catedral, a
prison he created himself. The Colombian government agreed to his offer. Even so, rather than a
prison, La Catedral is seen more as a place of entertainment. In it, the Medellin Cartel built a
nightclub, mini waterfall, soccer field, billiard area, sauna, and luxurious rooms like a 5-star
hotel.

In 1992, the government deployed thousands of troops and hundreds of special forces to storm
the prison after the murder of a fellow cartel member inside La Catedral prison. Escobar is also
known to still run his illicit business from prison. Pablo Escobar managed to escape from prison.
Since then, the government has been on a massive hunt for him. After months of being hunted,
he was found in his hiding place in Medellin.

In a shootout on the roof of a building, he was shot in the head. Many poor people in Madellin
mourned his death. At the funeral, it was recorded that 25,000 people attended to take him to the
grave. The death of Pablo Escobar did not necessarily make the cocaine business die. Cocaine
smuggling from Colombia is on the rise. The cocaine market turned to the Cali Cartel, a rival to
the Medellin Cartel.

Pablo escobar is a robin hood for the people of Medellin even though he has a very severe
criminal record and is very much, but he has a good side so he became my inspiration because he
taught me what it means to be loyal, care for the little people, and really love his family.
