THE PEOPLE’S CONSULTATIVE ASSEMBLE


(In this text and the following, the reading selection will concern high institutions of the
government such as the ‘Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat’,  ‘Dewan PertimbanganAgung; etc.

Knowledge of these institutions is significant to law students, science these areas are relevant to
political science. Political science is one of the subjects taught in the preparatory stage of law
education. The reading passages that follow are taken from textbooks and papers written by
prominent lawyers and policy makers of the nation; however, I have made same alternations with
regard to the language only in the order to suit the level of learning.
I.A nation is an organization of people living together. As an organization, a nation has persons
holding office in which they have a substantial amount of power. Different nations have different
system with regard to power. In th a totalitarian state, the head of the state has absolute power;
any fiat he makes is the law the nation and may not be revoked. In a democratic country, there is
a balance of power. In Indonesia, a country which is based on Pancasila democracy, that power
is balanced by the ‘Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat’--- the People’s Consultative Assembly.
 II.  The People’s Consultative Assembly exercises the sovereignty of Indonesia of Indonesia
which resides in the people. The implementation of this sovereignty is based on Pancasila
democracy—a democracy which emphasizes consultation and consensus and the spirit of
brotherhood. The People’s Consultative Assembly is Comprised of member of Parliament and
representatives from regions and from group.
