I. EXPLORING THE TEXT:  Based on the given reading assignment in Module 10, read again the
poem and answer the following questions below. 
 
"Lyric 17" by
Jose Garcia-Villa 
 
First, a poem must be magical,
Then musical as a sea-gull. 
It must be a brightness moving
and hold secret a bird's flowering. 
It must be slender as a bell, and
it must hold fire as well. 
It must have the wisdom of bows
and it must kneel like a rose. 
It must be able to hear the
luminance of dove and deer. 
It must be able to hide What
it seeks, like a bride. 
And over all I would like to
hover 
God, smiling from the poem's cover. 
 
 
1. What is your interpretation of the entire poem Lyric 17? (5 pts.) 
 My interpretation of the entire poem is very difficult because I can’t barely understand
what the author trying to say, because the words are too deep for me to understand.
 
2. Describe the linguistic context of the poem. How did the author’s choice of language help in
developing the message of the poem? (10 pts.)
