Length of supply chain contains two components A and B. The component A can be estimated with the manufacturing/packing date and date on which you visit the
retailer and see the product. The component B is time of sale and is to be estimated with the approx. sales/month and number of stocks available. This estimate provides
the maximum time a product can be there on shelf.
● Insert the image of that part of the Product 1 which exhibits the date of packing/manufacturing
and the details of the manufacturer.
Sample calculation

Retailer(1),product 1:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 31-12-2021

Date of visit: 27-1-2022

A = 5days = 0.1667 months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 468

No. of units of stock = 39

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(39/468)/2 = 0.0833

Therefore length of the supply chain = 0.25003 months

Retailer(2),product 1:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 2-2-2022

Date of visit: 06-02-2022

A = 4days = 0.1333 months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 420

No. of units of stock = 30

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(30/420)/2 = 0.03571

Therefore length of the supply chain = 0.16901 months

Retailer(3),product 1:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 03-02-2022

Date of visit: 06-02-2022

A = 3 days = 0.1 months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 238

No. of units of stock = 19

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(19/238)/2 = 0.039915

Therefore length of the supply chain =0.1399 months

Retailer(4),product 1:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 20-1-2022

Date of visit: 27-1-2022

A = 7days = 0.2333 months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 246

No. of units of stock = 24

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(24/246)/2 =0.0487

Therefore length of the supply chain =0.28211

● Insert the image of that part of the Product 2 which exhibits the date of packing/manufacturing
and the details of the manufacturer.
Sample calculation

Retailer(1),product 2:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 31-12-2021

Date of visit: 27-1-2022

A = 27days = 0.9 months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 320

No. of units of stock = 37

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(37/320)/2 =0.0578125

Therefore length of the supply chain = 0.9578 months

Retailer(2),product 2:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 21-01-2022

Date of visit: 06-02-2022

A = 47days = 1.5667 months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 250

No. of units of stock = 26

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(26/250)/2 =0.052

Therefore length of the supply chain = 1.6187months

Retailer(3),product 2:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 15-11-2021

Date of visit: 06-02-2022

A = 83 days = 2.7667 months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 30

No. of units of stock = 10

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(10/30)/2 = 0.1667

Therefore length of the supply chain = 2.93336 months

Retailer(4),product 2:

for A,

Date of manufacture: 11-12-2021

Date of visit: 27-1-2022

A = 77days = 2.5667months

for B,

Approximate sales/month = 90

No. of units of stock = 10

B= (stock/sales)/2 =(10/90)/2 =0.0555

Therefore length of the supply chain = 2.622 months

List down your observations from the above tabulations.
1. When compared to the lower life span products , their supply chain length is lower than the higher life
span products.
2. When comparing the organised and unorganised sectors, organised has more sales and stocks.
3. Sales per month of milk is higher in every shop as it is an essential product in day to day life.
4. Organized sectors are having large inventory compared to the unorganized sectors and so more
stocks are there.
5. In the case of Appy fizz the unorganised sector is having higher supply chain length, it could be
because of the lack of demand there when compared with the organised sector. And in the case of
milk this length is almost the same everywhere, as it is an essential commodity.
