Q2. Why is a stator necessary for a d.c motor and explain briefly the function of No volt and over load
release used in a d.c shunt motor stator.
Q3. A d.c shunt motor gave the following Swinburne’s test result: Voltage=500 V, Current=5 A, Armature
resistance =0.1Ω, Shunt field = 250 Ω. Find the efficiency of the machine; (i) as a generator delivering
100A at 500V (ii) as a motor having line current of 100A at 500V. Neglect the rise in resistance due to
increase in temperature. Assume stray losses as 1% of output.
