Can the introduction of uniform education turns a

developing Pakistan into prosperous one?

Different streams of education in Pakistan are one of the hurdles in the way of
progress of our country. We got three kinds of education systems: Public schools,
private schools, and madrassa or religious schools. These all have different
curriculum, standards, and medium, which create different problems for the
country. Hence the introduction of uniform education may bring unity among
nation, reduce social disparity, remove the tag of terrorist from students of
madrassa and provide equal opportunities for all students to share and contribute
their talent for their own development and for the development of a country as a
whole.

Firstly, uniform education can strengthen national cohesion and bring people of
different thoughts on the same level. It will reduce the discrimination which is on
the basis of person’s social, economic, religious, and cultural background. If we
talk about medium then it varies from school to school. Like in interior Sindh
Sindhi is language of study, private schools are English medium and in madrassas
students are being taught in Arabic and Urdu. These all create a gape among
people.it leads issues like provincialism, terrorism, etc.so if there will be one
medium than such issues will resolve to some extent.

Secondly, in the scenario of Pakistan the gap between poor and rich, liberal and
religious people increases day by day.one of the factor which encourages this
social disparity is the ununiformed education system. As we observed in our
society that rich people send their children in private schools which offer quality
and expensive education but that is unaffordable for poor people and unwillingly
they send their children to public schools which doesn’t offer the same level of
education and prepare a student for future in a way that he cannot come out
from the circle of poverty. Likewise, students of madrassas are confined with
religious education and they are consider as conservative people. Therefore
uniform education for all poor or rich, liberal or religious will give birth to a
society based on equality.

Moreover, according to report launched by ministry of federal education in 2015,

nearly a tenth of all the enrolled students in Pakistan study in religious schools.
They are being taught Islamic education and very little science or other subjects.
They also consider it a sin to learn English or modern education due which it is
thought that they are trained as terrorists in madrassas. So, a same level of
education will help student of madrassa to come out of the limited circle of
thinking and rest of the society to make a positive thought about such students.

In addition to above all uniformity in education system will provide equal chances
to every student to nourish his talents and to use them for self-betterment and
development of society. Due to these different kind of schools every student is
not able to compete with the rest of the world. Like students of A levels are more
competent than rest of students because they are given such advance syllabus
and standards. For example, majority of the students in IBA have studied from
private schools. Few are products of public schools. Same with engineering
colleges and medical colleges. Why a single person from madrassa cannot qualify
these type of tests. The very simple answer is the faulty education system of
Pakistan.
However, this uniform education can also have negative impacts like Faisal Bari
said that” If the curriculum and books are uniform, the children in Sindh get the
same books as the children in Punjab, and their regional cultures, traditions,
history and literature get ignored (should Bulleh Shah not be taught at all or
should he be taught to all?).”But it can be solved by including cultures of all
provinces in the curriculum but making the medium same for everyone.

Now the question about the acceptance of uniformed education also arises. Will
Pakistani people willingly welcome it? It seems difficult.it is explained by Dr
Pervez Hoodbhoy, he said that” such a thing has never happened in Pakistan’s
history and wouldn’t happen in the future either. Since Pakistan has a diversified
and fragmented society.”

In a nutshell, I would say that, for the bright future of Pakistan one curriculum is
important. Although it seems impossible but government should try its best to
apply it in country despite having some drawbacks.it is the only solution to bring
out Pakistan from social economical and religious issues.
