1. What is career planning and why is it important. Career planning provides a strategic
guide for one’s career through short, medium, longer, and long-term goals as well as
future education and work-related experiences. Career planning is important because you
cannot advance very far in financial planning without also planning for a career that will
provide adequate income.
2. How do your values affect your trade-offs in career planning? Your values can affect
your trade-offs in career planning because you could favor one thing over another in a
career and eventually make a decision that could change your entire career plan.
3. What can be done to enhance your abilities and experiences without working in a
job situation? To enhance your abilities without working in a job situation you could
volunteer within your community, join a club, or complete job shadows.
4. Is the gig economy, freelancing, or entrepreneurship for you? Why or why not? I
think right now freelancing is for me because it is also freedom within a career, like the
gig economy, but is also more structured, like entrepreneurship.

Chapter 2.2 Concept Check

1. Is college worth the cost? Why or why not? The cost of college is worth it because
people who attend college make more than twice as much as high school graduates as
well as have a better unemployment rate.
2. How does one put a monetary value on an employee benefit? A monetary benefit can
be put on an employee benefit by placing a market value on the benefit or calculating the
future value of the benefit.
3. Give some examples of legal employment rights. Some legal employment rights
include hourly employees be paid overtime for extra work put in, a women cannot be
forced to go on maternity leave until she is ready, the right to take leave for personal or
family medical problems, pregnancy, or adoption, and when you leave an employer you
have the right to continue your health insurance.

Chapter 2.3 Concept Check

1. Offer suggestions on correctly assembling a résumé and what style formats are
available. To correctly assemble a resume, it should be one to two pages, carefully
written with zero errors or inconsistencies in message, content, and appearance. In a
resume you should include your education, training, and experience.
2. Give examples of how to identify specific job opportunities. Some examples of how to
identify specific job opportunities include using the internet to view posted job
opportunities and going to career fairs.
3. Give three suggestions on how to succeed in an interview. To succeed in an interview
you should look presentable, getting your haircut and wearing professional trendy attire.
You should also focus on the company's needs, not yours, when interviewing. And finally
you should look the interviewer in the eye which suggests that you are interested.
4. Explain how to compare salary and living costs in different cities. To compare salary
and living costs and different cities, you take the salary offered in city 1 and then
multiply that by index in city 2 divided by the index in city 1. This will then give you the
equivalent salary in the city. Then you can repeat this process for city 2.
5. Give two career advancement tips. Two career advancement tips include asking others
for what you want and to believe in yourself.
