Financial Aid Re ection

1. Federal Financial Aid- What are the di erent types of federal nancial aid
available to students? How do you apply for federal nancial aid? What bene ts
do students receive from this type of nancial aid?
The types of federal nancial aid are grants, scholarships, federal work-study, and student
loans. To apply for federal student aid, such as federal grants, work-study, and loans, you need
to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). College nancial aid helps
students and their families by covering higher education expenses such as tuition and fees,
room and board, books and other coursework supplies, and transportation.

2. State Financial Aid- What are the di erent types of state aid available to
students? How do you apply for state nancial aid? What bene ts do students
receive from this type of nancial aid?
The most common types of aid are need-based grants, but some states also o er merit-based
grants, scholarships, educational loans and tuition waivers. To apply for state nancial aid,
such as state grants, scholarships, loans and tuition waivers, you need to complete the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It helps a student pay for education expenses at a
postsecondary school.

3. School Speci c Financial Aid- Which schools did you research? Describe one
grant or scholarship that is o ered at each school. What bene ts do students
receive from this type of nancial aid?
I researched University of Arizona Global, El Paso Community College, and Johnson & Wales
University. UAGC has a UA Study Abroad Travel Grant. The grants are awarded at $1,000 for
semester programs, $500 for summer & $250 for winter and spring break programs. EPCC has
a Pell Grant that is designed to assist students pursuing their undergraduate degree. JWU has
an International Presidential Scholarship that o ers academic and merit-based scholarships
that are renewable for up to four years.

4. Private Scholarships- Describe two scholarships that you found interesting


during your research. What are the bene ts of using this type of aid to fund your
education?
Two scholarships that I found interesting were the International Presidential Scholarship and
the Wildcat Award. The International Presidential Scholarship o ers academic and merit-based
scholarships that are renewable for up to four years. The Wildcat Award is awarded to entering
JWU students based upon their high school record and is renewable for up to 4 years.

5. Military Financial Aid- Do you or your family plan to or have served in the
military? If so, describe at least one military nancial aid program that is available
to you? What bene ts do students receive from this type of nancial aid?
No.

6. Personal Financial Aid Plan- After reviewing the di erent types of nancial aid
available to students, what plan do you have for covering the costs of post-
secondary education? Write a paragraph that summarizes the total cost you expect
to pay for post-secondary education, the sources of aid you plan to use to cover
these costs, and when and how you plan to apply for each program. You may

also need to consider alternate sources of income such as a college fund or
savings plan that has already been set aside.

I have already lled out a FAFSA application. I will be seeking tuition re-endorsement from my
employer. I will also be seeking grants and applying for merit scholarships. The total cost for
expected post secondary education is between $30,000 and $50,000. My mom will also be
assisting me with my college costs.
