BOOK REVIEW WRITING
ACADEMIC BOOK REVIEW

Book Name : Introduction to Electronics

Chapter Name : Dc Circuits (8)

About the book:

This book “Introduction to Electronics” by “Earl Gates” is an academic textbook of electronics that is
published in its fifth edition. The book is compiled and composed by Earl D. Gates and Leo Chartrand.
This book has 40 chapters in it and it was originally published in 2006.

About the author:

This book "Introduction to electronics" is written by "Earl Gates" who is Associate Professor,
Emeritus at the State University of New York at Oswego where he taught Electronics Technology. Has 23
years experience in public education as a teacher and administrator. Retired from the US Navy as an
Electronics Technician Senior Chief. Member of the International Technology Education Association,
New York State Technology Education Association and the International Graphic Arts Education
Association. President of TEK Prep, a small business that does education consulting. As an education
consultant, he teaches courses in South Carolina and Florida.

About the context:

The context is descriptive and full of derivation and numericals and with proper highlighted detailed with
analysis of every term and definition. The preface / glossary content is given with specified bullets written
in a sequential manner. The terminologies are easy to learn and acknowledgeable. The sequence is carried
out with background concepts of electricity and afterwards DC Circuits and then its types like parallel
circuits, series circuits and series-parallel circuits along with derivations and numericals. This chapter is
also containing various sub topics like Voltage dividers, Wheatstone Bridge along with diagrams that
gave us detailed understandings of this chapter. The author’s main objective is to give students / readers
access to the topic of Dc circuits with thorough understanding of the concepts related to Dc Circuits.
Body:
In this chapter, the author has introduced some very basic Dc Circuit terminology. He wrote the
objectives at the beginning of the chapter to make it clear to the readers what they should study. The
problem is that there aren't enough examples and references for the specific idea of DC circuits. Because
the self-test can be completed for the learners step by step, the quizlet boxes are a useful component of
the author's work. Furthermore, the author's work is so durable that the aims he established at the
beginning of the chapter and the ended notions at the end of the chapter serve as a portal for learners'
perfectionism. The author added a lot of numerical problems for the concepts of Dc circuit. In this chapter
the sub topics are also explained very well with diagrams and derivation for strong concepts. The
description of each phrase is straightforward and condensed, with self-test questions and summarised
information by the author, making it easier for readers to remember it in the future The principles are
designed for beginners and do not meet the needs of specialists. The writer's work is presented in its most
basic form to ensure the introductory Dc circuits field.

Conclusions:
This chapter contains a comprehensive collection of simplified and innovative concepts for various
complicated magnetic and electrical terminology. This chapter provides the starting point for
understanding parallel circuit, series circuit, and parallel-series circuit in an easy-to-understand manner.
And the remaining topics voltage divider and whearstone bridge are also explain in an easy way.The
colourful theme of the chapters, along with the differentiation of each subject, makes it easier for readers
to grasp some basic theory concepts. The author's straightforward and clear style will captivate the
readers, allowing them to grasp the principles fast. There are a lot of numerical problems in this chapter
that help students grasp even the most complex sections of the concepts. This chapter will help students
learn about electrical equipment, Dc circuits, and a range of other subjects that are related to Dc circuits
and volage divider. It may be very useful to research students because it simplifies complex phrases and
provides self-testing and pictorial explanations. Engineering, electronics, circuit design, and applied
physics students may find it highly useful.
