* Grade Level Recommendations - Unit / Lesson Planning

Note: Prior to Grade 2, tag games should be used to develop the invasion tactics of: ready position (i.e., balanced starts & stops), dodging,
faking, and spatial awareness (i.e., FBL – forwards, backwards, lateral or sideto-side) (Belka, 1998 & 2006).
•2-3: Focus on 2v2/3v3 games/tasks --> play to cooperate & play to compete (i.e., focus on PB) using throw-&-catch handball style games; TPs
of possession, penetration, & starts/restarts - multiple SSG; working on gym management & ettiquette.
•3-4: Focus on 3v3/4v4 games/tasks --> continue throw-&-catch handball style games, progressing to dribble type games; TPs of possession,
attacking, & defending space; multiple SSG switching between cooperate-competitive game formats.
•4-5: Focus on 4v4-6v6 games/tasks --> use various games; TPs of defending the goal, winning the ball, penetrating/attacking, transitioning,
& restarts & defending space; move from competitive to scoring games, transitioning between 2v2/3v3 to 4v4 SSG throughout the unit
using a SE format.
•6 & higher: All types and progression of invasion/territorial games can be used; grade 10 consider adult version for intramurals and/or SE units.
