Violations of The
Dignity of Human
Life
Violation to the Dignity of
Human Life
What is violation?
A bort ion
It is often referred toas the termination of
Pregnancy it is also consider as “the
deliberate and direct killing, by whatever
means it is carried out ( surgical or chemical),
of a human being in the initial phase of his or
her existence, extending from conception to
birth” ( EvangeliumVitae58).
Women who subject themselves to an
abortion procedure do so for the following
reasons:
1. Pregnancy outside of marriage.
2. External pressure from the child’s father or
the woman’s family.
3. Other priorities (education, career)
4. Poverty
The Catholic church strongly
proclaims that “ direct abortion
always constitutes a grave
moral disorder” (Evangelium
Vitae 62).
Church grounds its rejection of abortion on
the following reasons:
1.The human being is to be respected and
treated as a person from the moment of
conception.
2. To accept abortion is to foster a mentality
that views persons who are weak and
defenceless as “ problems” that can and
should be destroyed.
Substance Abuse
Adolescence is the period when the habits
we carry to adulthood are formed at this
stage both good habits (virtues) and bad
habits (vices) are developed like smoking,
drinking alcohol and even using prohibited
drugs.
Common reasons why some adolescence
try and eventually become addicted:
1. The need to be accepted by peers
2. Tabooed pleasure
3. Rebellion
4. Adventure
5. Coping mechanism
Suicide
It is the willful taking of one's own life
and is contrary to the innate human
drive to survive and live.
Suicide is considered as “ a gravely
immoral act”.
(Evangelium Vitae 66)
Capital Punishment
It is also called as death penalty,
capital punishment refers to society’s
act of executing a person found guilty
of commiting a crime considered as a
threat to the welfare of the society in
general.
Euthanasia
"an action or omission which of itself
and by intention causes death, with
the purpose of eliminating all
suffering”. (Evangelium Vitae 65)
However, we are under no moral obligation to
continue the use of extraordinary means to
preserve the life of our loved ones who may be
sick or dying. The following are examples of these
extraordinary means:
