The novel opens with Aunt Polly scouring the house in search of her nephew, Tom

Sawyer. She finds him in the closet, discovers that his hands are covered with jam
(marmelada), and prepares to give him a whipping. Tom cries out theatrically, “Look
behind you!” and when Aunt Polly turns, Tom escapes over the fence. After Tom is
gone, Aunt Polly reflects ruefully on Tom’s mischief and how she lets him get away with
too much.

On Saturday morning, Aunt Polly sends Tom out to whitewash the fence. Tom
convinces Jimmy and some other firends that painting the fence was art. As all the
boys wanted to paint the fence, they gave Tom something in Exchange. This time too,
Tom managed to avoid his responsabilities again.

On his way home for dinner, Tom passes the Thatcher house and catches sight of a
beautiful girl. He falls head over heels in love with her. Tom spends the rest of the
afternoon “showing off” on the street. The girl tosses him a flower, and, after some
more showing off, Tom reluctantly returns home.

Next day, Tom was on his way to school when he saw his friend Huck. He wants Tom
to see something interesting ( a dead cat under the tree). Do you remember what did
Huck decide to do with the cat?. So they went to the cementary at midnight. They hear
3 men there. Dr Robinson, Muff Potter (drunk) and Injun Joe. Why are they in the
cementery? (Doctor robinson needed a dead body for his medical studies). Suddenly
the men started fighting. Muff was drunk and they started to fight. The doctor hit Muff
on the head and he fell to the ground, unconscious. Then Injun Joe took Muff’s knife
and killed the doctor. However, It was Injun Joe who told Muff that he had killed Dr
Robinson with his knife.

Next day, Huck and Tom found a raft (txalupa). They decided to go to Jackson’s island.
They spent 3 days there, playing, exploring and swimming in the river. After 5 days, he
returned home and realized that everybody beleived they were dead. Finally Huck and
Tom decided to show up at their funeral.

A week later, Muff Potter’s trial started. It was the first murder in the town. Some
witnesses went into the trial. One of them said that he saw Muff with blood on his
hands and clothes. Muff didnt remember anything about that night. When the layer
called Tom, he tells the true story about the murder. At that momento, Joe opened the
window and escaped.
