Antenna Installation
Select Antenna Location
 Generally GNSS antenna is designed for a pole mount
 Select an outdoor location for the antenna, like the roof of your building, which has a relatively unobstructed
view of the horizon.
 Install the GNSS antenna vertically to the earth.
 Dense wood, concrete or metal structures will shield the antenna from satellite signals.
 The GNSS antenna is an active antenna. For optimal performance, locate the antenna as far as possible from
transmitting antennas, including radars, satellite communication equipment, and cellular and pager
transmitters.
 When locating the antenna near a radar installation, ensure that the antenna is positioned outside of other RF
Antenna or radar’s cone of transmission.
Follow the same guideline when installing the antenna near satellite communication equipment.
 For the best results, mount the antenna below and at least 3m away from satellite communication equipment.
 The length of cable run from GM200 to the antenna location should not degrade the supply voltage below the
minimum requirement of the antenna.

Antenna Installation
General considerations
• Beyond to the antenna itself, the installation placement of the antenna has significant impact on jamming robustness
• The GNSS antenna can be positioned on a large GND plane, which can be any flat piece of conductive metal with a ground
connection
• This will block signals from below

A good example:

The antenna is on the mast

with the best practical sky
view, and not in the beam of
any transmit antenna. It could
have been a bit higher on the

this is generally a good place.

• APTS disable mode : Just for normal GM operation for the master mode on both Eth0 and Eth1.
• APTS enable mode : Enable the APTS mode and you can configure one of Eth0 or Eth1 to slave
mode.

o Freerun mode : Typical GM operation for local devices synchronization in short term without GNSS
antenna.

o Boundary clock(BC) mode : Normal Telecom Boundary clock operation without GNSS antenna and you
have to configure one of Eth0 or Eth1 to the master mode and the other Ethernet port has to be
configured with the slave mode.
►Note◄ In the BC mode, all GNSS related configuration is disappeared.

GM200 APTS

What is APTS?
 APTS is time and phase distribution architectures defined in ITU-T G.8275.2.
 APTS has emerged as a GNSS‐assisted architecture that uses PTP for backup.
 A GM which support APTS generally placed at the edge side.
 A GM which receives PTP for backup should be configured as a Slave mode for one PTP interface.
 In order to keep the PTP synchronization quality under control the path from the remote GM that generates
the backup clock to the APTS node must be as short as possible.
