Class: V

Computer Lesson No.1 Exercise B. Answer the following questions.

Q1. What are the input devices? Give examples.

Ans: - Input devices help us to enter the data into a computer.

Web Camera: - It is used to capture the images and make the videos.

Graphic Tablet: - Graphic tablet is used as a pen and paper.

Barcode Reader: -It is used to read the barcodes.

Joystick: - It is used to play games.

Microphone: - It is used to record our voice or to chat.

Q2. What are the storage devices? Give examples.

Ans: - The storage devices of the computer comprise of the primary as well as
secondary memory devices of the computer used to store data in computer.

1. Primary Memory (Main Memory) (RAM & ROM)

2. Secondary Memory (Permanent Memory) (CD, DVD, FLASH DRIVE, HARD

DISK)

Q3. What are the main components of CPU box? Explain.

Ans: - The CPU box consists of various hardware components such as

Motherboard, Processor or CPU, Memory chips (such as RAM and ROM), Hard
Disc drive, SMPS, CD/DVD Drive etc.

CPU (Central Processing Unit):- It processes the data in the computer.

SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply):- It supplies power to the CPU.

Motherboard: - It is the main board and holds many of the crucial components of
the system fee CPU, RAM and connectors for other devices/ peripherals.
Q4. What is secondary memory? Explain any two secondary memory devices.

Ans: - These memory devices are needed to store the data permanently. Their only
use is to keep the information stored for a long period of time, so that users can
refer to it whenever required. These devices are also known as external devices.
These storage devices are very useful in terms of transportability of data.

Hard Disk: - it is placed inside the CPU box. Whenever you save the data in your
computer, it gets saved on the hard disk. The various storage capacities of hard
disk arc 80 GB, 160 GB, 250 GB, 320GB 500 GB, 1 TB, etc.

CD-ROM (Compact Disk Read Only Memory):- It can be read with the help of an
optical drive. The term ‘ROM’ means that data on the disc is read only and cannot
be altered.it can store data up to 700 MB.

Q5. Write the differences between primary memory and secondary memory.

Ans: - Primary Memory (Main Memory) , It is the storage area that is directly used
by the processor. Primary memory is necessary for a computer to work. It is also
known as the computer memory OF internal memory. ‘There are two most popular
main memory devices in computer: RAM and ROM.

Secondary memory is needed to store the data permanently. Their only use is to
keep the information stored for a long period of time, so that users can refer to it
whenever required. These devices are also known as external devices. These
storage devices are very useful in terms of transportability of data.

Q6. How does Computer work?

Ans: - Computer follows three major steps to perform any operation in it, as
follows.

Input: - It is the raw data or instruction given to the computer using input devices
like: keyboard, mouse, etc.

2. Process: The raw data or instruction is processed according to the requirement

through processing devices, i.e. Central Processing Unit.

3. Output: After completion of the process, the information we get is called the
output. This output can be seen on an output device like the monitor.
