• BIOTECHNOLOGY
•What is Biotechnology?
Biotechnology is the branch of applied science that uses living organisms and their
derivatives to produce products and processes. These products and processes
feature in healthcare, medicine, biofuels, and environmental safety.

It is a technology-based on biology – biotechnology harnesses cellular and

biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve our
lives and the health of our planet. We have used the biological processes of
microorganisms for more than 6,000 years to make useful food products, such as
bread and cheese, and to preserve dairy products. It was When Edward Jenner
invented vaccines and when Alexander Fleming discovered antibiotics, they were
harnessing the power of biotechnology.

Biotechnology involves understanding how living organisms function at the
molecular level, so it combines several disciplines including biology, physics,
chemistry, mathematics, science, and technology.

Applications of biotechnology

Biotechnology has variety of applications in our day to day life and more, such as
in Agriculture (Green Biotechnology), Medicine (Medicinal Biotechnology),
Aquaculture Fisheries, Environment (Environmental biotechnology).

Agriculture:- advances in biotechnology have been used as a tool to increase food

production. Specifically, advances in genetic engineering have made possible the
manipulation of crops to increase yield, guaranteeing food supplies for the
increasing world population. In Agriculture focuses on developing genetically
modified plants to increase crop yields or introduce characteristics to those plants
that provide them with an advantage .
In medicine understanding pathogens, and understanding human cell biology
Primarily, it is used for finding cures as well as getting rid of and preventing
diseases. This includes production of Vaccines and Antibiotics. The field usually
leads to the development of new drugs and treatments, novel to the field.
In industrial biotechnology - Biocatalysts have been developed by the industrial
biotechnology companies such as enzymes, to synthesize chemicals. Enzymes are
proteins produced by all organisms. The desired enzyme will be manufactured in
commercial quantities using biotechnology.
Microorganisms- Microorganisms find their use in chemical production for the
design and manufacture of new plastics/textiles and the development of new
sustainable energy sources such as biofuels.
Environmental Biotechnology - is the technology used in waste treatment and po
llution prevention that can more efficiently clean up many wastes compared to con
ventional methods and significantly reduce our dependence on methods for land-ba
sed disposal.

• CLOUD and QUANTUM COMPUTING

Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources

especially data storage (cloud storage) and computer power, without direct active
management by the user. Large clouds often have functions distributed over multip
le locations, each location being a data center. Cloud computing relies on sharing o
f resources to achieve coherence operation needed and economies of scale, typicall
y using a "pay-as-you-go" model which can help in reducing capital expenses but
may also lead to unexpected operating expense for unaware users.
Cloud computing services can focus on infrastructure, web development or a
cloud-based app. These are often regarded as a stack; all are on-demand, pay-as-
you-go. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) gives you management of the whole deal:
servers, web development tools, applications.

Advantages of cloud computing

 Cost Savings It helps you to save substantial capital cost as it does not need
any physical hardware investments.

 High Speed :-Cloud computing allows you to deploy your service quickly in
fewer clicks.

 Back-up and restore data

 Reliability:-. You can always get instantly updated about the changes.

 Mobility:-The cloud allows you and multiple users to access your data from any location
 Unlimited storage capacity
 Quick Deployment :- cloud computing gives you the advantage of rapid
deployment.
Quantum computing
Quantum computing is a rapidly-emerging technology that harnesses the
collective properties of quantum states, such as superposition, interference, and
entanglement, to perform calculations. The devices that perform quantum
computations are known as quantum computers. Quantum computing is the study
of how to use phenomena in quantum physics to create new ways of computing.
Currently, the only organization which provides a quantum computer in the cloud
is IBM.They allow free access to anyone who wishes to use their 5-qubit machine.
Qubit is short for a sequence of quantum bits.
Quantum computer theory was first rooted in the 1980s and only now are the first
rudimentary machines being constructed. Quantum computers are big machines,
reminiscent of the old mainframe computers of the 1960s.

Advantages of quantum computing

 They're fast. Ultimately, quantum computers have the potential to provide
computational power on a scale that traditional computers cannot ever
match. ...
 They can solve complex problems.
 They can run complex simulations.
Disadvantages of quantum computing

 They’re difficult to build.

 They’re only suitable for specific tasks.
