1. What are the communication models? Why do you think they were introduced?

Communication Models:

● Aristotle Communication Models

● Laswell’s Communication Models
● Berlo's Communication Models
● Shannon and Weaver Communication Models

These models are introduced to ensure that we will have effective communication. These are
used to explain human communication processes.

2. How does one model differ from other/s?

● Aristotle's Model has three variables in the communication process: speaker, speech and
audience.
● Lasswell's Model described communication as being focused on the following Ws: Who,
says What, in Which channel, to Whom, and with What effect.
● TheShannon- Weaver's Communication Model was conceptualized for the
functioning of radio and television and was later on adopted in the field of
communication. The Components are the information source for the sender,
transmitter for the encoder, decoder, and receiver.Noise, reception, destination and
feedback have been identified.
● Berlo's communication model was called SMCR that stands for Source, Message,
Channel, and Receiver. However, it was also modified later on to include noise, hence
the acronym SMCRN.One model differs from the others in accordance to the
variables/components included in each model.

3. If you were to choose a conceptual model for communication, what would you
prefer and why? How can you be guided by those models when you communicate?
● I will choose the Shannon and Weaver Model, these have different elements when
communicating. These elements are really part of communication. And for me, this is
easy to understand compared to others.

4. How do the principles of effective oral communication differ from those of effective written
communication? Do they have similarities at all?
● They are different when it comes to delivering their messages. The process of delivering
messages in oral communication is through verbal or spoken words and the process of
delivering messages in written communication is through written word. However these
two have similarities when it comes to principles: they must be performed or delivered
completely, clear, and concise.

5. How can one observe ethics in communication?

● We can observe ethics through observing one’s behavior. One must be honest, decent,
truthful, sincere and have moral uprightness. One must provide accurate and complete
information.

6. Why is it important to have a code of conduct or a code of ethics?

● It paves the way for the attainment of the desired results leading to the success of an
individual and organization. These are sets of standards to be observed by people that
will create a good image not only for an individual or an organization.
