JTC SAYS:
This is the second half of the B section. That whole section is mostly a series of II-V-I
progressions, and we start here with a II-V-I into G major (Am-D7-G). Apart from a few
chromatic notes, Luca is simply using G major (G A B C D E F#).
The Gm9-C7 is a II-V-I into F, but we never reach the F chord. Instead of keeping it
simple this time, Luca uses G harmonic minor (G A Bb C D Eb F#) over Gm7 and then
C Mixolydian (C D E F G A Bb) or F major over the C9. Finally, the Cm7-F9 starts the
II-V-I back into the Bbmaj7 of the A section... we’re back to Bb major.
