REFLECTION JOURNAL 1 “GENERAL MACHINE SHOP SAFETY”

A machine shop is a room or building where machining is done. Machinists use machine tools
and cutting tools to make parts, usually of metal or plastic. Each shop has its own tools and machinery. In
our Machine Shop, I can say that safety inside the machine shop is not enough because of lack of personal
protective equipment, first aid kits and fire extinguishers. And I have observed that some of the
fluorescent lights and fire alarm systems are not working. And it must have a poster to remind all
person/cadets that will use machineries the proper procedure and behavior in doing some tasks.

REFELCTION JOURNAL 2 “PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT”

Personal Protective Equipment inside the Machine Shop is one of the most important and
required thing when you are going to use some machines. Machine users has the responsibility to identify
any hazards and ensure they are reported to supervisors or management so that effective controls can be
implemented. The use of PPE depends on what machine will you use but is has limitations like PPE only
protects the wearer and it is ineffective if not working or fitted properly. In our machine shop, we are lack
of personal protective equipment that we will use for some tasks such as hard hats, respiratory protection
and hearing protection.

REFELCTION JOURNAL 3 “RESPONSE DURING EMERGENCY”

Every building and workers must know about response during emergencies. We must have prior
knowledge regarding how to use first aid kits, what to do if you got burned, cuts or scrapes. When we are
working inside the machine, we must be careful and wear the proper personal protective equipment so
that no accident will happen. We can’t avoid accident but we can prevent by having knowledge what is
the proper behavior of using such machineries and a machine shop should have enough first aid kits.
