Outline of work plan for consultants

Activities:

1. OPD
1st visit to the particular Consultant 20-30 min. (in case of paediatrics this is either a new
patient or a new visit)

Follow up visit 10-20 min. (in case of paediatrics, a visit within five days)

- The consultant will inform the duration

- The guest services/call centre should distribute patients so that 1st visit patients make
less than half of total daily clinic visits

2. IPD
-10-20 min. per patient per day for the rounds (in paediatrics actual duration of the rounds)

3. Procedures
-actual time of a procedure

4. On-calls
- active on call time may be taken for compensatory off, based on logbook of arrivals to
hospital for work during on calls and log of number of phone calls received

5. Work on off days or afterhours

– compensated on hour-by-hour basis (9 accumulated hours is one day off)
- if worked for more than 6 consecutive hours- one day off
- alternative to compensatory off days is incentive

Work hours of consultants and specialists will be from 8:30 – 18:00, with 30 min. lunch break
included, five days a week.

OPD time 8:30-18:00 (last patient booked for 17:30), unless IPD rounds, or procedures

For specialties with in-patients (e.g. internal medicine specialties, surgical specialties, gynaecology,
paediatrics), dedicated time for rounds will be one hour in the morning and a half an hour in the
evening. That time can be prolonged or shortened, based on the number of in-patients (the
Consultant is obliged to inform the Guest Services)

If a consultant/specialist does not have a procedure or in-patients, walk-in patients may be booked.
Compensatory off days should be used in the subsequent month, being included in the roster, to
avoid clinic booking disruption
