The Philippines have been through a lot for the past century.

We have adopted from the

colonies that settled within our way, their way of a political system, their religion, etc. After
hundreds of years of being chained by the colonial government, we have managed to break our
chains from them because of the countless fights that our heroes have waged for our
independence. The Philippines became an independent republic with its newly evolving
democracy.
As time goes by, the Philippines continues to evolve and enhance in terms of political,
economic, and social. Because of the people behind it, the various connections with other
countries and the brilliant ideas of our countrymen, the Philippines is evolving faster.
What do you think will happen to the Philippines after 50 years? In this half-century,
many changes and improvements that will happen in our country and lives. Our life will change
in every aspect as we know it during the next 50 years and our life will drastically change as
technology advances around us.
In terms of economy, the economic condition of the Philippines in the past years has
slowed economic growth driven by a rapid deceleration in investment growth due to contraction
in public spending and a weaker global economy. The Philippines also experienced rapid
changes in inflation and the ever-changing value of the currency. By 2050, the Philippine
economy will become the 16th largest in the world in 2050 predicted by HSBC’s report on “The
world in 2050”. HSBC arrived at this projection by grouping the country into three categories-
the fast economies, growth economies, and stable economies.
Fast-growing economies are those with a low level of development but with sufficiently
strong underlying fundamentals to catch up with more developed economies with equally strong
fundamentals. The HSBC has assigned the Philippines in this category, along with China, India,
Malaysia, and Vietnam among others. For the Philippines, HSBC says it looks set for a multi-
decade run of strong growth. In making this projection, they admitted that it is not based on past
performance but rather on certain conditions that the Philippines, like other fast-growing
countries, is already well-positioned and that it can continue to improve in the future.
These conditions of HSBC lumped them into what is called the economic infrastructure
of the nation. These include the GDP per capita, education, life expectancy, fertility rate,
government consumption, and inflation. So I think that for the next 50 years, the Philippine
economy will continue to grow and develop if no disaster or tragedy that will cause the economy
to fall. We all know that the economy has a big impact on developing our country and its people.
It will help to decrease the unemployment rate and help to lessen poverty. Economic
development plays a key role in measuring the state of the economy of different countries. It is
the creation of wealth from which the benefits of the community can be realized. It is more than
job programs, because it is more about investing in the economic growth and improving
prosperity and quality of life for all residents.
One of the main issues in the Philippines is its growing population. Population explosion
considered being one of the alarming obstacles on the path of the least developed countries.
These countries produce large numbers of human resources because the birth is much higher than
the rich countries. This is a serious problem that government should never take for granted.
In the next 50 years, we all know that our population will increase. Our populations
continue to rise ever since, and the current population in the Philippines is 110 million based on
the latest United Nations data. The Philippines’ 2020 population is estimated at 109 million
people at mid-year according to UN data. The estimated population will reach 153 million by
2070, 50 years from now according to PopulationPyramid.net. Rapid population growth is one of
the main population concerns in the Philippines. This issue is the major block to reduce poverty
and improve the living standards in the Philippines. Family planning, therefore, plays an
important role in slowing down the rapid population of the country.
As the population continues to increase, our global warming will become worse over the
next 50 years because of the air pollution that comes from cars, factories, power plants that burn
fossil fuels such as oil, gasoline, coal, and natural gas. It is harmful to people, wildlife, and our
environment. If we people continue to harm our environment, we are the ones who will suffer in
the future. So being a responsible citizen is helpful to save our planet.
As the country continues to grow and evolve, its modernization continues to enhance.
Technology has the biggest contribution in our country and it never fails to amaze me. I think for
the next 50 years, billions of people would have access to unlimited knowledge because of the
new technologies and discoveries. Businesses will be reliant on the technologies and the saddest
part is that many people will lose their jobs. The employment rate in the country will decrease
especially for those Filipino workers who do not have enough knowledge and those who do not
have the opportunity to study. Highly skilled and professional workers are likely to increase the
demand.
We are now living in an industrialized country wherein technology is everywhere. I think
that technologies will increase efficiency and help many people to live in the easiest way
possible. We are now in the early stages of the fourth revolution, and these technologies around
us will improve. There is a possibility that human labor will become unnecessary as a result of
robotics. But we all know that technology or robot may not be able to do all the skills that
humans have. So it is important to enhance our cognitive skills. Also, as technology continues to
innovate and improve over the next few years, it will become hard for us to distinguish between
what is artificial and what is natural. We need to prepare ourselves and try to keep updated with
the technology news. We need to be knowledgeable about this.
We are not sure what’s going to happen in the next 50 years, so we need to invest in
knowledge and be aware of what’s going on in the country. Let’s start being responsible for
everything we do and change our mindset. We need to think bigger and don’t settle for less.
Let’s work hard and build our future.
