Module 1 Personal Development Final

1.2 Stages of Human Development
1
Concept Notes:
One has to understand his/her own emotions, desires, and abilities as a person.
Knowing who you are and what you stand for in life can help to give you a strong sense of self-
confidence.
Knowing yourself means respecting your strengths and weaknesses, your passions and fears, and
your desires and dreams.
Personal development consists of activities that develop a person’s capabilities and potential,
build human capital, facilitate employability, and enhance the quality of life and the realization of
dreams and aspirations.
Self-improvement and personal growth allow you to develop the skills and discipline to make you
a better person.
Erick Erickson (1902-1994) expanded Freud’s Theory that recognizes the importance of early
experiences in childhood. According to him, socialization process is important. His theory
extended the stages of development throughout the life span. In here, each stage is characterized
by psychosocial conflict or crisis that an individual needs to overcome enabling him to
successfully move to the next stage.
