Type of Historical Document

The type of historical document is legal records and governmental documents. Government
records are defined in any form as registered, generated or acquired information in the conduct of
government enterprise and retained as evidence of activities and transactions. This definition
emphasizes the purpose, rather than the physical nature or medium of documents. The category
includes traditional paper documents and records for all other forms, including electronic ones.
Records are made up of knowledge, but they are more than information. Records are the product
of actions-in the normal course of business, they are created or obtained and deliberately
collected and 'locked.' They are defined in terms of their essential function and significance,
which is to provide proof of the actions and events needed.
Government documents are primary sources of information. They include unpublished records in
any format, typically kept in government offices in formal filing or other recording systems.
Books, library sources and publications that have been published are not official documents.
Is it handwritten or typewritten? What do you think is the relevance of that in the
document?
The original copy of El Filibusterismo was a handwritten document by Dr. Jose Rizal. Some
people consider handwritten document are inefficient, particularly in terms of historical
documents as they are being studied. They seem to be so hard to understand since strokes,
capitalizations and other variables can alter the entire thought, ideas and words of the document
when viewed in a less meticulous view. This is somehow accurate, specially that the said
document was written in Spanish. However, there are circumstances where handwriting is
relevant to historical written objects.
As quoted by Dawn Mayo in his blog “The Significance of Handwritten Letter” “A sense of
realness and closeness is created through a handwritten letter – from your fingerprints on the
card, to the ink from your pen and to the final seal of the envelope.” Leaving the document
handwritten increases its validity and relevance.
