General Guidelines

Introduction

The purpose of this Summer Internship Program (hereinafter referred to as SIP) of Unitedworld School of
Business (hereinafter referred to as UWSB) guideline is to lay down the overall framework for the following
members who will be involved in ensuring that the SIP becomes a true opportunity for experiential learning for the
students of UWSB while will carry out this internship engagement at their respective organizations as a part of the
curriculum requirement for the fulfillment of their Post Graduate Program in Management:

a. The students

b. The project guide of the recruiting organization

c. The UWSB Faculty guide

d. Deans at various campuses (as final authority of internship assignment for students in his / her campus)

About SIP 2011

a. It is mandatory that all students complete their summer internship program at their designated companies for

a period of at least 8 weeks, generally starting from 11 April, 2011. Any exception to the timeline will be dealt
by the Career Services Department of a case-to-case basis in consultation with the Dean.
b. Those students would have got their SIP’s through their own efforts, will have to submit details of their SIP
companies to the local CSD (Career Services Division) office.
c. SIP will be evaluated as equivalent to two credit course, for calculation of CGPA for PGPM Advanced Module.
d. Any student getting an ‘F’ in SIP will be regarded as having failed in two subjects and treated accordingly in
terms of overall qualification requirements as stated in the rule book.
e. Each student will be assigned a Faculty as the guide on behalf of UWSB to ensure better co-ordination among
all constituent parties, enhanced learning for the student and value addition to the recruiting organization.

Role & Responsibility of Student

a. All students are intimated to take up the SIP assignment with extreme seriousness and rigor to ensure that the
learning opportunity is utilized optimally and result-oriented project outcome is delivered to the recruiting
organization.
b. It is imperative that during the entire duration of the SIP, students demonstrate professionalism, punctuality,
discipline, sincerity and ethical standards of the highest order. Students are instructed to maintain timely
reporting and submissions as required by the recruiting organization, documentation on a daily basis, and
continuous interaction with the Project guide and Faculty guide.
c. All information gathered during the SIP should be treated as confidential. In case some organizations asks for a
confidentiality agreement to be signed by the student, the student should do so and also ensure that it is
thoroughly followed in its content and spirit.
d. The student is expected not to divulge to any unauthorized persons, nor use for any purpose other than the
SIP requirement, any information concerning the recruiting organization’s operations, Know-how, business
secrets, etc. that he/she may come to acquire and have access to as an intern of the company.
e. The report to be submitted to UWSB for Faculty evaluation and archival should be approved first by the
project guide.
f. The students are expected to show complete integrity and honesty while submitting statement about their
out-of-pocket expenses incurred for reimbursement, if applicable. A good out-of-pocket expenses claim
statement will mention date of travel, mode of travel, From and To, expenses incurred, person met or visited,
outcome and remarks. In case the company has its own form for these purposes, that should be adhered to.
g. Some companies have agreed to pay stipend to the students. The students may collect the same from the
respective authority of the recruiting company as per their policy, under guidance of the project guide.
h. Any complaint of personal misconduct, indiscipline, insubordination or negligence of work or absenting
without prior permission or disobeying and neglecting any order or directions given to student, will be dealt
with utmost seriousness. The maximum penalty for that could be a cancellation of registration as a student of
UWSB in terms of continuation of the course and award of the final Diploma. The Dean of the respective
campus will have the final say in these matters.
i. The student will be attached to a faculty from his/her campus as the guide so that he/she gets good guidance,
ensuring better learning for the student and meaningful contribution to the recruiting company.
j. The allocation of the Faculty guide will be made by the Career Services department of the campus in
consultation with the respective Dean. The name of the Faculty attached to the student will be intimated
separately to the student as well as the Faculty.
k. Students are expected to interact with Faculty guide on a weekly basis, and keep him/her aware of all the
development and progress, including difficulties, if any.
l. Any break or gap in the SIP will affect the student’s learning and the organizations expectations from the
student and will definitely affect the student’s evaluation for the assignment.
m. The student is requested to note the following important instructions for SIP:
• Joining report to be forwarded to CSD (as per prescribed format) on commencement of SIP

• Progress report to be submitted periodically to Faculty guide, as per directions of the faculty
• On completion of the SIP, project guide feedback to be obtained in a sealed envelope and submitted to
CSD. The student will have to get a letter of completion from the recruiting company duly signed by the
project guide.

• The Final report will have to be submitted to the recruiting organization as per instructions given
• Copy of the final report to be submitted for institute evaluation to CSD in CD and also in printer format –
after obtaining clearance from the project guide
• A PPT will also have to be prepared for making a presentation in class, after completion of SIP. The
student will make a presentation to the Faculty team as per the schedule indicated by Academic
Administration.
• In case the recruiting organization makes any communication about pre-placement offer, the student
should keep the CSD of the campus informed of the same in writing.

Support expected from the Project Guide of the recruiting organization

a. UWSB student will meet the concerned person who will lead the project on behalf of the recruiting
organization, on the day of commencement of SIP - and understand clearly what needs to be done during the
tenure of internship in terms of project definition, scope of project, objectives and desired outcomes as well
as interim timelines as milestones.
b. The student will inform the project guide the name of the faculty guide attached to him / her. Complete
contact details of the faculty guide will be given to the Project guide by the student.
c. The student will also get the joining form signed by the project guide – as he is required to send the form back
to the campus as a record of commencement of internship.
d. The concerned project guide is requested to devote sufficient time so as to enable the student to deliver the
best, leading to a value-addition to the company as well as have a proper learning experience.
e. The concerned project guide is requested to intimate the Faculty guide attached to the student for any
deviations from the expectation in terms of discipline, punctuality, deliverables, etc. – so that appropriate
corrective measures can be taken.
f. The Faculty guide may interact with the concerned project guide from time to time for better co-ordination for
the benefit of the project – and to make sure desired deliverables are achieved.
g. On completion of the assignment. the project guide is requested to complete the final evaluation form and
give the ratings as deemed fit which should reveal the true picture of the student for the internship
assignment. This form will be sent to the guide by the career services department. The guide is requested to
hand over the completed form in an envelope, sealed and signed across the flap.
h. The project guide is also requested to give a final completion certificate to the student.
i. If it is the practice of the recruiting company to get the final certificate and evaluation to be submitted to
UWSB by the HR department, then accordingly the evaluation form will be sent to the HR head of the
company and a certificate of completion is expected from the HR dept.

Report Writing: General Instruction

The general structure of a project report should consist of 3 main divisions:

A. Preliminary Section
B. Main Section
C. Reference Section

A. The Preliminary Section should consist of the following:


i. Title Page
ii. Acknowledgement
iii. Approval of the Faculty guide
iv. Declaration of the summer intern (trainee)
v. Table of contents
vi. List of tables
vii. List of figures

B. The Main Section of the Report should consist of the following:


i. Introduction
ii. Literature – secondary data
iii. Including data collection methods etc.
iv. Sample & Analysis of data
v. Summary & Conclusion

C. Reference Section:
i. Bibliography
ii. Appendix
iii. Index

2. MS Word and MS Excel should be used for composing the project report.

• Font - Times New Roman (size: 12pt for normal text, 14 pt for headlines / special)
