Imagine you have been asked to produce a prototype for the diary system discussed in

the worked exercise in Section 7.2.3. What would be an appropriate prototyping approach
to enable you to test the design using the usability metrics specified, and why?

Diagrams and sketches

One of the earliest forms of prototyping you can use is sketching. It requires very little effort and does
not require high levels of artistic drawing skill to be useful, which is where its value lies. Use sketches
to illustrate and launch your ideas into the real world — even the most basic and crude sketches will
suffice. Simple illustrations of your concepts should be sketched so that they don't exist solely in your
head, allowing you to share them with your team for further discussion and brainstorming. To illustrate
a system, process, or the structure of your ideas, you can use diagrams and mind maps. You can draw
the various touch points that influence a user's journey and then figure out how they interact. You can
also visualize and analyze how your ideas interact with one another and complement (or sometimes
compete with) one another. Diagramming is a useful tool for understanding complex situations or use
cases involving multiple factors and players. To help you scope out complex situations, you can use
journey maps, behavior maps, system flow diagrams, and a variety of other mapping methods.
Sketching is a useful prototyping method because it can be done almost anywhere.
