Kabunian, the powerful deity, thought that he was lonely at first. He had the notion of
creating a clay man that he could bring to life and converse with. He'd be able to put man in
command of the other species on the planet from time to time. They said that Kabunian was in
the atmosphere before heaven, earth, or anything else, that he was ab eterno (from eternity)
and not manufactured or created by anybody from anything. That he alone built and constructed
everything we've stated simply because he wanted to. Others held Kabunian to be the Supreme
God of the Igorots and Ifugaos. According to legend, Kabunian lent his ladder to his son at Mt.
Kalawitan so that he may wander the area. As a result, the mountain's name originates from the
word "kalawit," which means "hook." KABUNIAN is derived from the Kankanaey word "BUNI,"
which means "TO PRAY." Kabunian originally meant "to Whom We Pray," implying that
Kabunian was not a Monotheistic Deity. In Igorot territory, it is their Ancestors, Spirits, and
Elements.

Kabunian is the supreme God of the universe. He has the power to move iron the buyon
divination. Kabunian was believed to be the reason why mankind exist for he used his power to
create man with clay. With Kabunian’s great power, he was able to make three different races of
men and loved them equally. He breathed life onto man and encouraged them to love each
other for they all came from clay with his supreme power and should treat one another as
brothers.
