Festivals are of great importance in our lives. It gives us a golden chance to come together All
our relatives, friends and allour near and dea ones meet at a place. We share our joys and sorrows. We
have no time to talk peacefully or eat quietly. Festivals have the power to remove these problems .
Inspite of different castes, creed , culture and religion, the festivals bring us close to one another.
Festivals arises the sense of brotherhood amongst us and helps to maintain communal harmony.

One such very important festival is the Durga Puja. It is the greatest festival of the Hindus. It is
held in Autumn. Goddess Durga and her children Kartick, Ganesh, Lakshmi and Saraswati are
worshipped in this festival. Durga is the symbol of strength and power. She is seen dominating over evil
by killing Asura . Puja pandals are nicely decorated and illuminated. Men, women and children are
dressed in new clothes. They go to visit the images and pandals in their locality. They enjoy very much
the first three days of the puja.They feel sad when the images are immersed on the fourth day. On the
occasion of this festival, schools and colleges remain closed. Factories and offices also remain closed for
a few days. People of other religions also enjoy this festival and embrace each other.

HINTS:

There lived a lot of mice in a house------ troubles were being made by them--------Master decided to
bring a cat------- the mice held a meeting--------many plans were discussed---------young mouse gave an
idea to bell the cat---------the old mouse said, ‘ Who is to bell the cat?’

Ans: There lived a lot of mice in a house. They were very naughty. A lot of trouble were being made by
them. The Master of the house was confused. He hit upon a plan to get rid of it. So the master decided
to bring a cat toi kill the mice. The cat came. Then the mice could not move freely as usual. They held a
meeting to get over the problem. Many plans were discussed and dismissed . At last a young mouse
said, ‘ I have a good plan. Let us tie a bell round the cat’s neck. Then we shall be warned of his coming
and hide in time.’ The plan was acceptable by all the mice, but an old mice said, ’the plan is good. But
who is to bell the cat?’ All were silent. Now there was no one to bell the cat.

MORAL: It is easy to say than to do.

TOPIC- THE LION AND THE CLEVER FOX

Once there lived an old lion inside a cave. The lion was very hungry and could gather no food. So

he made as to how would the animals come to his cave and he could kill them and eat them up. So he

announced that he was very weak and was suffering from great pain. He knew that at this news every

animal would come to visit him. That would give him a chance to easily catch them and eat them up.

Hearing the news of the lion’s sickness , the animals gradually came to visit the lion one by one but

none returned back. Then comes the clever fox. When the fox goes towards the cave he notices

footprints going towards the cave but none was coming out o the fox. At this the fox at once

understood the plan of the lion and very soon runs away from that place. Then at once he goes to the

forest and warns all the other animals about the lion’s plan and with his intelligence saves his life as
well as the lives of the other animals. Thus the old lion remains hungry once again.

MORAL: You should always be alert and use your intelligence and not follow the others blindly to save
oneself from danger.
