HEALTH TEACHINGS:

PARTICIPATE IN EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAMS. During your baby's first five

years of life, early intervention may include therapy, exercises, and activities that will aid in the
development of your child. It is possible that she will require occupational physical therapy to
strengthen the muscles around the hip. Early intervention can assist a child with Down
syndrome in achieving developmental skills, as well as in developing muscle tone and spatial
awareness.
IMMOBILIZATION. Children with hip instability may benefit from the temporary use of a
spica cast, which is designed to keep the hip bones in their proper positions while allowing the
ligaments surrounding the joint to become more stable.

ASSISTIVE DEVICES. Some children may require the use of splints or other devices to
alleviate pain and make physical activity more bearable for them. Orthotics, arch supports,
customized shoes, and braces can all be beneficial in the treatment of joint instability-related
problems.

FOLLOW – UP CHECK UP: The patient will have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Cruz in three
weeks for a hip CT Scan.
