RECRUITMENT OF YOUNG PEOPLE


1. Study the table below and answer the question. Rank the reasons and give a justification
for your ranking. (6) Remember to refer to powerpoint 2.

to spend time with their friends.

not helping their country, and they feel like
they have to help because otherwise they
will not be dignified in society.

2. Study source B ( powerpoint 2 ) A German soldier remembers: “The Kaiser


promised the war would be over before the leaves fell in 1914”. From the above
table, which reason matches well with this source? Give an explanation/
justification. (2)
Adventure because the men were told that they would have fun as it wouldn't be
for long because they would be back before leaves fell.

3. How fair was society to the young people in 1914? (2)


It was not fair because kids were forced to live without both of their parents as
men went to war and women had to do the jobs that men left behind.
4. Why is it always that young people get recruited to fight in wars? .. (2)
Because often younger people are healthier and stronger whereas older people
are more likely to die at war.
5. What was the role of each of these in World War 1? (2)
(a) Conscription- When men have to serve a certain amount of time it was
because it was compulsory for some educational services.
(b) Propaganda- Information or posters that are of biased nature.
(c ) Mobilization-When a country prepares a group of people for the war.
(d) Dominion- When someone rules a country or has controlling power over a
country.
