SUMMARY OF THE STORY
This is a story about a Japanese surgeon whose name is
Sadao . He goes to America to study medicine and there he
meets a Japanese girl named Hana. After completing their
studies both of them comes back to Japan , marries and
settle down. This was the time of World War II. Thus, all
the doctors were called upon to serve the Japanese army.
However, they allowed Sadao to stay back. It was because
he was the chief doctor to the old General who was on his
death bed.  However, one night, an incident changes his
life. He encounters an American Navy-man who is a
prisoner of war and is injured by a gun-shot and dying
While waiting for the assassins, Sadao starts noticing that
they are not coming and the process of killing the
american soldier keeps on delaying every day. However,
during this period of time, humanity slowly starts creeping
inside Sadao .He realizes that he is a doctor and a human
being at the end of the day.A doctor does not save the life
of a patient to kill him/her later. He now recognizes the
value of human life as well as universal brotherhood.
Thus, this opens his mind which was limited to race,
boundaries, and wars. Finally, he comes to the conclusion
that the American soldier is not his enemy just because he
belongs to another country. Thus, he rises above his
prejudices and does the right thing by helping the
American soldier escape, thus saving his life.
Although Sadao and his wife Hana did not want to help
the enemy, they take in the young soldier and provide
him with medical assistance. They keep him at their
house to stay away from any danger coming their way.
However, they know that they had opened the doors
to danger by helping the enemy. His servants decide to
leave Sadao and Hana too. As the days keep passing,
the soldier was now beginning to gain his health back.
Hana has started to grow anxious and remains stressed
all day because of the american soldier that was
staying in their house. Seeing her condition like this
Sadao decides to inform the General and after a long
discussion they decide to send private assassins to kill
the American soldier.
CONCLUSION OF THE STORY
To sum it up from the chapter ‘ENEMY’ we learn how love and
compassion can make us better human beings as opposed to
prejudices and biases against other people with whom we do
not share anything but the bond of being humans . It also
tells us that there is one thing that ties us all together
irrespective of whatever country , race or caste we belong to
and that is all of us belong to this human race . All of us are
human beings . We are first human beings and then we
belong to all these different communities which are all made
by man so we should respect this human race , we should
respect this creation which is made by god and always help
a person whenever he/she is in need.

WhathappenedbetweenJapanandAmerica duringWorldWarII
Bombingof HiroshimaandNagasaki

On August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45), an

American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first
deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of
Hiroshima. The explosion immediately killed an
estimated 80,000 people; tens of thousands more
would later die of radiation exposure. Three days
later, a second B-29 dropped another A-bomb on
Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people. Japan’s
Emperor Hirohito announced his country’s
unconditional surrender in World War II in a radio
address on August 15, citing the devastating power of
“a new and most cruel bomb.”
Aftermath of the bombing
At noon on August 15, 1945 (Japanese time), Emperor
Hirohito announced his country’s surrender in a radio
broadcast. The news spread quickly, and “Victory in Japan”
celebrations broke out across the United States and other
Allied nations. The formal surrender agreement was signed
on September 2, aboard the U.S. battleship Missouri,
anchored in Tokyo Bay.
Because of the extent of the devastation and chaos—
including the fact that much of the two cities'
infrastructure was wiped out—exact death tolls from the
bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki remain unknown.
However, it's estimated roughly 70,000 to 135,000 people
died in Hiroshima and 60,000 to 80,000 people died in
Nagasaki, both from acute exposure to the blasts and from
long-term side effects of radiation
