Painting – the art of applying pigment or color on a flat surface.

FORMS:

1. Easel painting - it involves applying color on a canvas that is fixed on an upright support called an easel.
2. Murals – are huge wall-sized painting
3. Telon Painting – is a backdrop for the stage play – like komedya, sinakulo, sarswela,
- Is used in presentations during carnivals, fiestas and religious celebrations.
4. Jeepney and calesa painting – typical subject matter ranges from landscapes to scenes from comic books.
5. Collage – it is a form of painting that involves combine images in a single artwork. This entails cutting and
pasting materials such as paper, fabric, tin foil and other relatively flat materials onto the canvas.

Themes of Painting

1. Genre painting - portrays people in daily activities. Like planting, harvesting, fishing, singing in front of
guests, sidewalk vendors, fiestas.
2. Historical painting – it depicts a scene from the past.
3. Interiors – this refers to painting of the space inside of a part of a house or a building. It reveals the social
class of a family.
4. Landscapes -These paintings portray natural scenery or urban scenes
5. Seascapes - focus on large bodies of water, particularly the ocean or the sea.
6. Portraits – a painting portraying one or more specific individuals.
7. Nudes – portray the unclothed human figure.
8. Religious painting – portrays lives of saints, scenes based from the scriptures.
9. Still life – refers to a painting that depicts natural or man-made objects that form a composition in a
natural setting.

Sculpture – the art of carving, molding or assembling parts together.

1. Free-standing – independently stand in space.


2. Relief – attached from a flat surface.
3. Assemblage – putting different materials together.
4. Kinetic sculpture – sculpture in motion
5. Welded sculpture – connecting sheets of metal together using acetylene
6. Use of glass
