Beyond The Blackboard.
Beside this effort she was creative with them, teaching some games for
them to learn, she had to make a change with no traditional methods of
teaching, even sometimes she had to speak with their parents asking
for them commitment and some help with the homeworks, she asked
for their parents, to make a pause of two hours a day in the afternoons
to help the kids with their homeworks.
Stacy never gave up trying to help the children; even she brought a
little girl called Maria to her own house with her family for living with
them for a while, because the father was taken out of the shelter for
being drunk and break the rules.
When time was passing by she kept pushing and asking for resourses,
she talked to the man who hired her but he told her that his work was
just to hire teachers; but when she talkted to another administrator, he
decided to see what he could do to help her, after hear Stacy talk
about every student, he got surprised when she told him that they were
twenty children now taking classes.
In the next days he went to the shelter with all supplies for the kids
even he took a piano from his own and he gave them to learn.
So this is how Stacey Bess made a big difference in their lives, she
inspired them giving them hope and being a fighter for their rights, she
wanted they could take classes in a regular school with other children
with no difference in social classes and races.
by the next year the government decided to build new classrooms for
the homeless kids and there was a big change in the legislation as
well, the homeless kids now finally be able to register at any school
they want.
This is a movie based on a real life story, a story that inspire us to be
better every day, the real Stacey is still working on programs to help
children, She currently works as a public speaker, for the educational
rights of children with no home.
