This movie is about a teacher recently graduated with no experience

teaching before; this was her first job.

Stacy Bess always wanted to be a teacher, since she was just a kid
she loved the school and she felt safe when she was there, one thing
is for sure she was borne to be a teacher.
When she got her first job as a teacher, she was very excited and she
couldn’t know that this job was not what she expected, she was sent to
a school with no name, an experimental and new program from the
government, to teach kids from six to twelve years old, all sharing the
same class, time and space.
Once she was there, she found out that she was hired to work where
nobody else wanted to go, there was not any school, and just basic
supplies such as chairs a blackboard and a Tv that was stolen in her
second day as a teacher.
There was actually a shelter, a place for people with no job, homeless
with several issues of drugs and domestic violence, the most of them
lived out there in their trucks and cars.
There was a space that they used as a classroom in which the kids
were taking classes of different grades at the same time altogether.
When she got there for the first time there was no text books and no
desks, the place was dirty and messy, the most of the kids did not eat
breakfast before taking classes therefore they couldn't focus on
studies.
The environment felt hostile, they had no hope before Stacey arrived
and nobody seemed cared about it, the children were unrespectful so
she had to work hard with them teaching not just science but to be
polite and respectful with each other.
So when Stacy saw all their needs, she decided to asked her boss,
resources to keep going, as desks, books, maps, art supplies and
support for the kids, in the meantime she took from her own all she
could, that's how she painted the classroom and she brought them
breakfast, this was the only way for them to be focus on what she was
teaching.

Beside this effort she was creative with them, teaching some games for
them to learn, she had to make a change with no traditional methods of
teaching, even sometimes she had to speak with their parents asking
for them commitment and some help with the homeworks, she asked
for their parents, to make a pause of two hours a day in the afternoons
to help the kids with their homeworks.
Stacy never gave up trying to help the children; even she brought a
little girl called Maria to her own house with her family for living with
them for a while, because the father was taken out of the shelter for
being drunk and break the rules.
When time was passing by she kept pushing and asking for resourses,
she talked to the man who hired her but he told her that his work was
just to hire teachers; but when she talkted to another administrator, he
decided to see what he could do to help her, after hear Stacy talk
about every student, he got surprised when she told him that they were
twenty children now taking classes.
In the next days he went to the shelter with all supplies for the kids
even he took a piano from his own and he gave them to learn.
So this is how Stacey Bess made a big difference in their lives, she
inspired them giving them hope and being a fighter for their rights, she
wanted they could take classes in a regular school with other children
with no difference in social classes and races.
by the next year the government decided to build new classrooms for
the homeless kids and there was a big change in the legislation as
well, the homeless kids now finally be able to register at any school
they want.
This is a movie based on a real life story, a story that inspire us to be
better every day, the real Stacey is still working on programs to help
children, She currently works as a public speaker, for the educational
rights of children with no home.
