With the advent of the Covid -19 pandemic, the education sector has

been roughly challenged. That includes us here in PEGAFI. As it

coincidentally occurred on the onset of the school’s first year operation
in 2020. But, PEGAFI has continually put full efforts aiming towards
excellence and has withstand all the challenges brought by the crises,
that’s the pandemic and, to add, the the Typhoon Odette. And we done
that all because of the 3 Core Practices that we have exercised in our
school.

Here in PEGAFI, we have 3 core practices which we call Personal and

Interactive Sharing, these are the Instruction, Community Extension, and
Research.

With Instruction, we have Curriculum Development, Learner

Development and Faculty Development. And let me help you understand
each.

With Curriculum Development, we have strictly followed the non-

negotiable Most Essential Learning Competencies during this time of the
new-normal way of teaching and learning process as mandated by the
Department of Education. Our school offers ONLINE-DISTANCE LEARNING
and MODULAR-DISTANCE LEARNING. And with PEGAFI’s innovation
towards curriculum development, we set to it that we will be able to
deliver all the competencies with this new normal setting with less hassle
to the students’ side, so we have this what we call “UNPACKING and
REPACKING” of the competencies.

What we do here is we take out competencies that are common to all or

most of the subjects and let 1 or 2 subjects handle the lesson for that
competencies, so the other subjects can proceed to their other lessons.
In short say, no lessons are being repeated across subjects.
And for performance tasks to be of less of a burden for the students, we
have implemented the cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary tasks.
Where we, the teachers, plan and initiate 1 common tasks that will be
credited across subjects. For example: The Support Local Community
Engagement Curriculum Based Project by the grade 12 students. In this
task, the students are asked to partner with small local businesses in
Toledo City and they will provide business card, brochure and create a
Facebook page for their partner. And this 1 common task will be graded
by the following subjects, Empowerment Technologies (ALL Strands) for
the layout, editing and responsible social media engagement,
Entrepreneurship (ALL Strands) and Business Ethics (for ABM) for
marketing and business principle, and two additional subjects for HUMSS,
for the interpersonal and community engagement lessons. 1 task for ALL
of these subjects highlighting a STUDENT-LEAD activity. Ingon ani mi sa
PEGAFI.

Speaking of students, we also have the Learner Development. Our

school has this Customized Learning Management System where we
ensure convenience on the student’s side while they are studying here
with us. With this user-friendly LMS, even with the freedom to choose
between ODL and MDL modes of learning, only 6% of the student
population has opted to have the Modular Distance Instruction.

Aside from that, as a student-lead institution, the students themselves

were engaged with various personality development activities that not
only honed their academic strengths, but also encourages and their non-
academic and personal interests for growth.

Lastly, for the Faculty Development program. In PEGAFI, we have this

engagement called the Professional Learning Community (PLC), where
we, the teachers, are individually assigned a topic to discuss to the whole
faculty. Topics ranges from basic life principles to professional related
concerns. All for the reason that we need to have collaborative effort to
improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.

Once again for the first Core Practice, Instruction, we have Curriculum
Development, Learner Development and Faculty Development
