LITERATURE REVIEW (Teachers )

Local
Previous studies have indicated that teachers should be equipped with skills needed in the

modality of teaching and learning at the time of the pandemic. The paradigm shift of the learning

modalities due to the COVID-19 pandemic has an open opportunity for faculty to gain

knowledge on the online platform, tools, strategies, and techniques (Usita, 2021). According to

Teachers must be exposed to webinars and training on online teaching and learning,

technological capacity, and mental health. Through this, they can be able to adapt to the sudden

shift in the system of education that forced the education sector, especially in basic education to

secure education and not jeopardize it.

The education sector in the country has developed the Basic Education

Learning Continuity Plan (BELCP) through DepEd Order # 18, series 2020 which

includes Policy Guidelines for the Provision of Learning Resources and its

Implementation. A feature of BELCP is the alternative learning modalities which

include instructional learning modalities that do not strictly follow the typical set-up

for regular classroom instruction but follow the K to 12 curricula in content. One of

these learning modalities is modular distance learning. (pa add namu info pa about

modular distance learning, not so familiar) Printed learning modality was one of the

options where the provision of self-learning modules is necessary that could stand

without the help of the teachers (Jimenez, 2021). The increase in technological and

adversity quotients created a stronghold to face the current situation brought by the

pandemic among teachers. Regardless of age and years of teaching experience,

teachers have a mindset to grow in the profession and be better educators. They want

to unlearn the old and relearn new knowledge and skills because they want their
students to learn according to their current needs and what the world needs in the

future.

In addition, De Vera et al (2021) suggested that teachers must undergo additional professional

development on the integration of technology in instructional designing, assessment, and

managing online learning environments.

Teacher education institutions must intensify in equipping teachers with knowledge on

integrating technology in lesson preparations. The government must provide resources for the

teachers that will help them prepare instructional materials such as ICT rooms, technicians for

technical support, laptops, and internet connectivity. Enough time will also help teachers to

design better instructional materials for their classes. The current situation of the education

system of our country needs a more significant push and optimistic view that we will be able to

make progressive change. Teachers should think of personal initiative, welcome the positive

opportunities to be developed in the recent situation. However, teachers, must be given ample

time to enroll in short courses and sufficient training in all learning modalities (Maloloy-on,

2021).
