Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno has called on the flood-affected residents of
Bidara Cina in East Jakarta to hand over their lands to the city administration to help move
forward with a flood mitigation project.
“The residents should not be selfish, because the project could bring a positive impact
to the city,” Sandiaga said at City Hall on Friday, adding that he would approach the residents
and try to persuade them.
The project involves drilling a tunnel that would connect the Ciliwung River to the
East Flood Canal, which would ease the severe flooding that occasionally occurred in Bidara
Cina.
The severe inundation that hit the capital in the past week has caused thousands of
Jakarta residents, particularly those in East and South Jakarta, to move temporarily to
evacuation shelters. Over 500 Bidara Cina residents have moved to the camps.
In 2015, the Bidara Cina residents whose lands were affected by the flood mitigation
project filed a lawsuit against Gubernatorial Decree No. 2779/2015 that expanded the project.
The residents won their legal battle the following year, when the Jakarta State Administrative
Court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, citing a lack of good administrative principles as one of
the reasons for the ruling. (vny)

Crocodiles belong to reptiles. They have longer hind limbs than fore limbs. Each
crocodile jaw carries 24 sharp teeth meant to grasp and crush, not to chew. The teeth are
continuously replaced along the crocodile’s life. They have a four-chambered heart like in
birds and mammals, for an active life. Still when diving, the heart behaves like a three-
chambered reptilian heart, enabling them to stay more underwater.
Crocodiles can swim just with the help of their wasteful tail with 40 km per hour, and
can stand under water 2-3 hours. On land they can burst on short rapid races, but they get
tired quickly. They can also execute jump out of the water, a several meters long. Many times
crocodiles stay on the river banks mouth wide open. That is not an aggressive posture, but a
way to cool off. They sweat through the mouth.
The largest crocodile species is salt water crocodile (Crocodylus Porosus),
encountered from India to northern Australia and Fiji. It can reach 7 m in length and 1 ton in
weight. Even so, a crocodile egg is no larger than that of a goose. The smallest crocodiles is
the dwarf crocodile (Osteolaemus Tetrapis) from Central Africa, which has a maximum
length of 1,9 m

been depleted.
D. From the right atrium, it passes through the tricuspid valve and then into the right
ventricle.
E. The blood flows into your left ventricle through the open mitral valve and finally,
it is pumped through the aortic valve into the aorta.

2012 is Roland Emmerich’s film which uses the Mayan Calendar and other end-of-days
prophecies for their doomsday scenario. It imagines the world coming to an end in
2012.
2012 film brings off a series of wonders. The movie hits its peak early on. It stars when
Cusack drives a limo through the streets of Los Angeles as freeway and skyscrapers
crumble all around him from the shock of a 10.5 earthquake. The preposterous flying
sequence is equally thrilling. The climax occurs aboard the giant ark. When an
equipment malfunction almost threatens the entire mission.
Unfortunately, the crucial sequence is not filmed or edited with the requisite
clarity. In 2012 film, Emmerich leaves us befuddled as to exactly what is happening to
whom. However, Emmerich’2012 deserves credit for offbeat casting. Cusack supplies
his trademark hangdog charm. McCarthy has perhaps his best role ever as Peet’s cocky.
Danny Glover lends dignity to the role of the tormented president. Chiwetel Ejiofor, as
the chief scientist, brings a moving sense of anguish to a stock role. Platt has fun
playing the villain of the piece, and Woody Harrelson also chews the scenery as a bug-
eyed radio prophet trying to warn his listeners about Armageddon.
All in one, 2012’s cinematography, production design and visual effects are
award-worthy. Music also propels the movie. It presents American Idol runner-up,
Adam Lambert, who provides a rousing anthem over the end credits.

Nowadays, people are more concerned about global warming. Global warming is the
incrrase in the Earth's temperature. Global warming harms many aspects of living.
First, the world sea levels rise. The polar ice, around Greenland, is melting Many
researchers have predicted that the sea level will increase by 88cm in the 21st century.
Second, it leads to an unsteady climate change. The part of the earth that heats more
quickly is the northern part. This may cause a decrease in the floating ice in northern water.
As a result, some places may not experience light snow ever again in their country.
We can save our Earth from global warming by saving energy our homes, such as by turning
off the light in daytime and by replanting trees
(PR/100/Gg)
28. What does the passage tell us about the writer's opinion on the issue at hand?
A. Global warming cannot be stopped
B. The sea levels will continue to rise in the 21" century
C. People can reduce the impacts of global warming by saving energy
D. The floating ice in the northern part is being reduced due to the heat
E. Global warming will cause some countries never to experience snow again
30. The floating ice in the northern waters is reduced,... some country may not experience a
light snow ever again.
A. As
B. If

One of the original animals in North America was the camel. However around 11.000
years ago the population of camels in North America decreased dramatically. Nowadays,
camels are usualy found in the dry areas of Africa, Asia and Australia. They are large cud-
chewing mammals with humps on the back In ancient times, camels roamed all continents,
with the exception of Australia and Antarctica.
More than 3,000 years ago, people in Asia who lived in the desert tamed camels. They
used camels as their transportation, took their wool and consumed their meat. Known as the
"ship of the desert”. camels can survive without having to eat or drink longer than any other
mammals. The humps behind their necks contain nutrition as food reserves.

34. Based on the text, the camel is unrivaled among mammals because...
A. it is able to survive for long periods of time without food and water
B. it is usually found in the arid regions of Africa, Asia, and Australia
C. the camel's back provides nutrition when no food is available
D. people have relied on the camel as a means of transportation
E. became they were extinct about 11,000 years ago

Once upon a time, there liveda shepherd boy who tended his master's sheep in a place
far away from the village. The pasture was surrounded by a dense and dark forest. He did not
have much to entertain himself with, except for playing with his dog. As a result, he got
bored very quickly.
One day, he thought of something fun. He imagined if he ever had to encounter a
wolf. He remembered that he was taught to call for help from the villagers to drive the wolf
away from the village. Therefore his plan was to run to the village and shout for help even
though he had not seen anything. He kept shouting, "Wolf! There is a wolf" while acting very
scared. The villagers quickly gathered and ran towards the pasture only to find the shepherd
boy laughing, with no wolf in sight. Because his first try was successful, he did it again, for
the second time, in a few days. Again, the villagers got tricked and laughed at by the
shepherd boy.
A couple of days later, the boy saw a wolf appearing from the forest which attacked
one of the sheep. He ran straight to the village while shouting for help, "Wolf Wolf!" with all
his might. However, the villagers did not want to help him, thinking it was just another prank.
They got back to work and ignored the boy. With no one to help, the shepherd boy
lost a few sheep as the wolf disappeared back into the forest. (PR/100/Gg)
Many people live in dense, dirty areas where narrow, shallow rivers are located. There
is a potential risk of flooding which might be caused by both humans and nature. Human bad
habits are some main causes of flooding. People throw garbage and trash in the river. The
flow is blocked and conseguent the water spills into the land.
In addition, natural phenomena may result in dangerous floods. Naturally, floods
happen when rain is extremely heavy, over an unusually long period of time. In some cases,
areas that experience a great deal of snow in winter are prone to springtime flooding when the
snow and ice melt, especially if the thaw is relatively sudden. Rainfall and melted snow can
sometimes combine to cause floods.
A unique combination of factors sometimes also causes floods. For instance,
whenever the ocean is at high tide, a low-lying coastal area is at risk of flooding.
Exceptionally high tides may be attributed to storms, caused by a combination of factors, like
low barometric pressure and high winds.
Finally, floods can occur regardless of the climate. Examples are volcanic heating and
rapid melting of a snow pack atop a volcanic mountain or under a glacier, or even failures of
natural or man-made dams, and tsunamis, seismic waves on the sea or large lakes that are
caused by earthquakes. (PR/100/Gg)
42. "Seismic waves on the sea or large lakes that are caused by earthquakes" is the definition
of...
A. flood
B. tsunami
C. weather
D. heavy rain
E. earthquake

Digestion is the process by which food is digested into smaller particles or malecules
for use in the human body. Digestion starts from the mouth and stomach, but most takes place
in the small intestine. In these places, the food is mixed with substances called enzymes,
which speed up chemical reactions the food. The fats, proteins, and carbohydrates (starches
and sugar) in the food are made up of very complex molecules and must be digested or
broken down.
When digestion is completed, starches and complex sugar are changed into simple
sugar, fats are digested into fatty acids and glycerine, and proteins are digested into amino
stream. Other foods such as vitamins, minerals, and water do not need digestion. The rest of
the food passes into the large intestine. Water is taken back into the body. The remains, or
faeces, go to the rectum.
