I. SUMMARY OF PROCEDURE

The length, width, thickness and weight of the floating body assembly was measured using
a tape measure and a digital balance. The sliding load was then detached from the assembly and
was measured using the digital balance. After the sliding load was weighed, it was reattached
and positioned at the center of the assembly. The sliding load on the mast was adjusted to a
desired height, marked as position A, from the base at which the height was recorded. Using the
sharp edge frame, the location of the center of gravity of the floating body assembly with respect
to the base of the mast was recorded using a tape measure. The process of readjusting the sliding
load on the mast was repeated two more times to desired heights, marked as position B and C
and the heights from the base to the sliding load was once again measured using a tape measure.
After readjusting the sliding load at position B, the center of gravity was then located using the
sharp edge frame and the distance of this location from the base was measured using a tape
measure and this process was repeated after readjusting the sliding load at position C. The
floating body apparatus was then placed on a tray filled with water. With the mast at position A,
the sliding load at center was moved to a desired position x=1cm from the center causing a tilt in
the assembly and the angle of heel was then recorded. The process of measuring the angle of heel
was repeated at x=3.0cm and at x=4.5cm. As the mast was adjusted to position B, the angle of
heel was measured once again at x=1.0cm, x=3.0cm and at x=4.5cm. Lastly, as the mast was
adjusted to position C, the angle of heel was measured at x=1.0cm, x=3.0cm and at x=4.5cm
