Grade: 6th Grade Purpose: Students will demonstrate their understanding of global issues and stories. They will use proper writing format and punctuations. They will include a introduction, body and conclusion. Objective: Mastery in summarizing informational text with a clear beginning middle and ending. Understanding global citizenship and comprehending text. Materials: Access to internet or library for research. Length of Lesson: One class session (1 hour) Grouping: Students will work on this assignment independently. Procedure: Students will conduct research on a story (non-fiction) that has taken place in another country (than the one they live in). they find three credible sources on this topic or story. They will use one of the two graphic organizers provided to organize their information before beginning to write their summary. They will write a 3-5 paragraph summary of the story. Including an introduction, body and conclusion. They will need to provide work summary sheet at the end of their summary providing the reader with their sources. Their summary needs to be revised and edited correctly. Assessment of Students Learning: I will read and assess each student’s summary. I will grade their work based on their credible sources, completed graphic organizer, an introduction, body and conclusion. A summary with very little/free from grammatical errors. Their work summary sheet needs to be in the correct format clearly stating their sources.
