Course No : MF F317 Course Title Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing Instructor-in-Charge : TUFAN CHANDRA BERA ‘Tutorial Instructor ‘Tufan Chandra Bera Practical Instructor : Pawar Shrikant Shankarrao 1. Course Description: An overview of CAD/CAM, Principles of Computer Aided Design, Computer Graphics Fundamentals, 2D and 3D ‘Transformations and Projections, Plane Curves, Space Curves, Synthetic Curves. Analytical and Parametric surfaces, Synthetic surfaces, Solid Modeling basics, Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG), Sweep Modeling, Constructional aspects of computer controlled machines, CAM system devices, Programming of computer controlled machines, CAD to CAM, Virtual manufacturing, Computer aided process planning, Computer aided production planning & control, ‘Computer aided inspection and quality control, CIM systems. 2. Scope and Objective of the Course: Manufacturing engineers are responsible for designing, developing and running manufacturing systems to produce competitive and sustainable goods. Designs of modern products and processes are very complex which are heavily rely ‘on computer aided technologies. The CAD/CAM and system integration technologies have been greatly advanced recently due to the rapid development of IT and computer hardware and software systems. Modem manufacturing systems in the digital era become ever more complicated, and product and system designs demand more advanced computer tools to deal with the complexity, varieties, and uncertainties. Therefore, CAD/CAM course is essential for undergraduate and graduate students of mechanical, manufacturing and industrial engineering students. The objectives of the course are: To study the mathematical concepts based on which various modules or objects of the back end in CAD software are written, To understand how 3D objects or geometrical entities are represented on a two-dimensional display screen and how such entities can be positioned with respect to each other for assembly purposes. To understand the features, design and applications of NC and CNC machine tools in modern manufacturing To learn manual part programming for various machining operations and to understand the integration between CAD and CAM To learn about the use of computers for virtual manufacturing, CAPP, CAI, CIM and PPC. 3.
